Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller Real Estate Portfolio to oversee complex accounting functions, ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, and contribute to strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will bring strong GAAP knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and experience in real estate or property management accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

General Ledger & Journal Entries

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations.

Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight

  • Supervise and support AP/AR functions, ensuring accuracy of invoicing, rent rolls, lease accounting entries, and cash application.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Support annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting.
  • Analyze variances and provide insights on trends.

Audit & Compliance

  • Assist with external audits, tax filings, and internal control reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, lease accounting standards (ASC 842 preferred), and statutory requirements.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and enhance internal controls.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and accounting software (experience with real estate systems a plus).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred

  • CPA or working toward CPA designation.
  • Experience in real estate, property management, or commercial leasing accounting.
  • Familiarity with lease accounting and property management systems.
