Job description

Commercial Real Estate Controller

Location: Houston, TX (South Houston – Beltway/288)
Salary: $125,000–$155,000 + Annual Bonus

Join a well-established commercial real estate owner/operator managing 40+ industrial properties totaling over 7.5 million square feet. This hands-on leadership role offers exposure to both property management and development accounting, working closely with executive leadership on acquisitions, capital projects, financing, and asset management initiatives. Controller Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and day-to-day accounting for a commercial real estate portfolio.
  • Oversee development and property accounting, including project accounting, CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, insurance administration, property taxes, construction draws, financing activities, and MUD/WCID accounting.
  • Partner with leadership on acquisitions, lease analysis, budgeting, asset performance, cash flow projections, and capital project tracking while supporting strategic business decisions.
  • Serve as the Yardi subject matter expert and mentor a small accounting team while driving process improvements and maintaining strong relationships with lenders, attorneys, property managers, and external partners.

Controller Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of commercial real estate accounting experience within property management, development, or owner/operator environments.
  • Advanced Yardi experience required along with strong financial reporting, project accounting, and general ledger experience.
