Job Description

The Test Technician will perform electrical and optical testing on fiber optic and hybrid cable assemblies to ensure product performance, reliability, and compliance with industry and internal quality standards. This role requires strong technical aptitude, careful attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering and production teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical and optical testing on fiber optic and hybrid cable assemblies using specialized test equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, interferometers, multimeters, and other test instruments.
  • Interpret test specifications, work instructions, and procedures to validate product performance and ensure compliance with customer and industry requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose failures, defects, or inconsistencies in cable assemblies, wiring, and connections, and identify root causes of issues.
  • Work from cable assembly schematics and documentation to verify correct wiring, terminations, and configuration.
  • Document test results accurately, maintain detailed and organized test records, and ensure all documentation aligns with quality standards and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve technical issues, provide feedback on recurring problems, and suggest improvements to test methods and processes.
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with applicable industry standards such as MIL-STD and IPC/WHMA-A-620, as well as internal quality protocols.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and verify the proper functioning of test equipment and fixtures, and report any equipment issues promptly.
  • Follow established safety, quality, and clean room procedures while handling fiber optic and electronic components.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing ideas to enhance test efficiency, accuracy, and throughput.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in cable testing, preferably within a manufacturing or aerospace/defense environment.
  • Hands-on experience testing fiber optic and hybrid cable assemblies.
  • Proficiency with fiber optic test equipment, including OTDRs, power meters, interferometers, and related tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret cable assembly schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge in electrical and electronics testing, including use of multimeters and other standard test equipment.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills for cables, wiring, and electronic assemblies, with the ability to diagnose and resolve test failures.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in executing tests and documenting results.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to comply with ITAR-related requirements.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean manufacturing environment focused on producing fiber optic and hybrid cable assemblies for government and private sector customers. The position involves regular use of specialized test equipment, including OTDRs, power meters, interferometers, multimeters, and other electronic test instruments. Standard shift options typically include a day shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with frequent overtime opportunities on Friday. Depending on department needs, an alternative schedule of Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. may be available. The environment emphasizes adherence to safety, quality, and documentation procedures while supporting efficient, precise, and reliable testing activities.
