Job description

Staff Product Engineer
We're hiring a Staff Product Engineer to drive Vitally's most important customer outcomes as we rework the platform for the AI era. The role sits at the intersection of engineering and product with a direct line to the C-Suite. You'll co-decide what to build alongside our product and design partners, ship fast through AI-native workflows, and own whether the work actually moved the metrics.
Role Responsibilities
  • Product Ownership:
    • Build a deep working knowledge of how customer success teams use Vitally, and use that intuition to identify the problems worth solving rather than waiting for tickets.
    • Co-shape the roadmap with product and design partners, and push back when you think a PM has misread the user.
    • Make calls with incomplete information and reduce ambiguity by shipping, talking to users, and iterating.
  • Customer Intelligence:
    • Mine usage data, support patterns, and product signal at scale through AI tooling to inform product decisions.
    • Pick up the phone, join the support call, or take the advisory meeting yourself when a decision warrants first-hand customer input.
  • AI-Native Shipping:
    • Operate fluently in Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent, using AI-assisted prototyping to compress weeks of work into days and prototype-as-spec as a default way to communicate intent.
    • Land prototypes in days and MVPs in weeks, cutting scope to get a working v0 into customer hands rather than polishing a v1 nobody has seen.
    • Own the customer-facing design execution for features in your domain (clean, accessible, on-brand UI that respects the design system).
  • Outcome Accountability:
    • Define the user-facing metrics that matter for your features before shipping, and own whether the work moves them.
    • Course-correct or sunset features that didn't perform, rather than declaring victory at launch.
    • Plan across multiple horizons and estimate accurately enough that the team can rely on your projections.
  • Engineering Quality:
    • Build the system that builds the product, creating the architecture, skills, and shared tooling that let both agents and engineers ship quickly in the codebase.
    • Lead multi-project technical efforts that create leverage for other engineers, rallying the team to ship more product rather than gatekeeping architecture.
    • Lift the engineers around you through code reviews, design discussions, and modelling great work; give and receive thoughtful feedback.
  • Cross-Functional Voice:
    • Speak for the team across Vitally to Customer Success, Support, broader engineering, and leadership, proactively socialising decisions, blockers, and progress.
    • Write design docs and project plans that other people actually read, and go get wider buy-in yourself rather than waiting for it to arrive.
    • Operate as a peer to product, design, support, and sales counterparts, and help fix broken processes even when they aren't strictly yours to own.
About You
  • Typically 6+ years of software engineering experience with deep feature ownership. We'll compromise on years for the right product talent.
  • A track record of product ownership. You can describe features you independently scoped from raw user signal, PRDs you've shaped, metrics you've moved (with numbers), and product calls you've championed against PM disagreement.
  • An AI-native operating style. You're already shipping daily through Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent, and have adapted your personal process around AI-assisted prototyping.
  • A decisive shipping cadence. You've owned features end-to-end on timelines measured in days and weeks rather than months, cut scope to make that possible, and iterated on real customer feedback after release.
  • Customer instincts you don't outsource. You read usage data and signal fluently with AI tooling, and you pick up the phone or join the call when a decision needs first-hand input.
  • Design taste. You've shipped clean, on-brand customer-facing UI without designer involvement, and can critique an existing design choice and explain why.
  • Strong technical judgement. Your code is production-ready by default, you've designed testing strategies for teams, and you've led multi-team initiatives that shipped meaningfully.
  • Fluency in our stack: TypeScript, React, Node, and PostgreSQL.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior B2B SaaS experience, ideally in customer success, sales, or related operations tooling
  • Founder or lead-engineer experience at an earlier-stage company
  • Prior time at a company with an established Product Engineer role (Intercom, Linear, Replit, or similar)
  • Comfort with commercial decisions (pricing, packaging, positioning) where they intersect with engineering
  • Experience working directly with customers in a technical advisory capacity
About Vitally
Vitally is a Customer Success Platform built for modern CS teams. We help CS organizations run smarter - better visibility into customer health, more efficient workflows, and stronger collaboration across the post-sale team. We're a small, high-trust team that moves fast and cares a lot about doing the work well.
Benefits & Culture
  • Salary: We offer a competitive salary for your experience as well as location. The comp band for this role starts at $250,000 and increases depending on the skill and seniority of the candidate.
  • Equity: We want every team member invested in the company's success and are happy to be generous with equity.
  • Benefits:
    • 100% of health/dental/vision insurance premiums covered by us.
    • 401k through Empower.
    • Commuter benefits.
    • Unlimited PTO with a minimum we require you to take off. Please relax and recharge!
    • Flexible work hours and work-from-home policy.
    • Yearly education stipend.
  • Culture: We are committed to a productive and respectful work environment. Culturally, the team is extremely friendly, fun, hard-working, intelligent, and mature. That said, while we're young and scrappy as a team, we don't believe in building a startup cult. We like each other, we support each other, we're a focused team that busts our asses at work, and we enjoy hanging out from time to time, but we enjoy having our own lives outside of Vitally.
