Staff Accountant
Location: Lakewood, CO
Description:
We have a new opening for Staff Accountant to begin sourcing. This role will float between Staff Accountant - Corporate Accounting (more execution-focused, entries, reconciliations, close support) and Financial Reporting II (more technical + external reporting heavy, financial statements, GAAP research, FERC filings, consolidations). This is an entry- to junior-level accounting position. The scope primarily involves lower-complexity tasks, including basic financial statement preparation support, reconciliations (tie-outs), report extraction, and organizing data into standardized formats.


Must-Have Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of accounting experience
  • Financial statement preparation
  • Attention to detail, ability to flip between tasks 


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting (or related field) 


Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).


Technical Skills:

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Journal entry preparation and financial close processes (month/quarter/year-end)
  • Account reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Financial statement preparation (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, equity)
  • Regulatory reporting (FERC, government filings)
  • GAAP application and technical accounting research/documentation
  • Internal controls compliance, testing, and documentation
  • Financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting processes
  • ERP and financial systems usage (Oracle, Workiva, or similar) 


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Oracle, Workiva, or similar ERP/reporting tools
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with consolidations and intercompany accounting
  • Familiarity with FERC regulatory accounting and reporting
  • Experience preparing financial statements and disclosures (including footnotes/MD&A)
  • CPA certification


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform footing and cross-footing of financial statements
  • Tie prepared footnotes back to supporting documentation
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of debits, credits, and trial balances
  • Prepare simple joint venture (JV) income statements and balance sheets
