Through the Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS), Peraton brings together advanced technology, engineering expertise, systems integration, and mission-focused professionals to support one of the most critical transportation infrastructures in the world.
If you're a technical leader who thrives on solving complex problems, developing high-performing teams, and delivering results in a mission-critical environment, we invite you to join us.
Senior Technical Project Manager - Surveillance
Location: Herndon, VA
About the Role
Peraton is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager - Surveillance to provide technical, project, and personnel leadership for the BNATCS Surveillance team.
In this role, you will lead complex technical initiatives while also managing and developing the professionals supporting the Surveillance mission. You'll work across engineering, systems integration, testing, deployment, program management, FAA stakeholders, vendors, and other BNATCS workstreams to ensure technical activities are aligned, risks are addressed, and program objectives are achieved.
This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the modernization of the National Airspace System while helping build and lead a talented team of professionals working on a nationally significant mission.
What You'll Do
Lead Technical & Program Delivery
  • Provide technical and project leadership across Surveillance and supporting workstreams, aligning engineering, integration, testing, deployment, and program activities with the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
  • Translate complex technical and program requirements into clear, actionable work packages with defined responsibilities, milestones, dependencies, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate technical and organizational dependencies across FAA stakeholders, vendors, engineering teams, deployment teams, and other BNATCS workstreams.
  • Identify, assess, communicate, and drive resolution of technical, schedule, staffing, and cross-domain integration risks.
  • Monitor program performance and provide clear, timely status updates to Peraton and FAA leadership.
  • Facilitate technical reviews, planning sessions, stakeholder meetings, and decision-making forums.
  • Ensure deliverables meet applicable quality, configuration-management, contractual, security, and customer requirements.
  • Drive collaboration and accountability across multidisciplinary teams operating in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
Lead & Develop People
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to assigned office personnel supporting Surveillance program activities.
  • Establish priorities, assign work, balance workloads, monitor performance, and ensure employee responsibilities align with program and organizational objectives.
  • Mentor and develop employees through coaching, regular communication, feedback, training, and career-development planning.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, recognize accomplishments, address performance concerns, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, resource allocation, workload management, and employee retention.
  • Partner with Peraton functional leadership, Human Resources, program leadership, and other managers to address staffing and employee-related matters.
  • Serve as an escalation point for personnel, administrative, resource, and workplace issues affecting the team.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing environment where employees are empowered to contribute, innovate, and succeed.
Support Mission & Organizational Excellence
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration across technical, program, and organizational boundaries.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, team performance, and overall program execution.
  • Promote compliance with Peraton policies, security procedures, training requirements, timekeeping requirements, and professional standards.
  • Maintain a strong focus on mission outcomes while balancing technical, schedule, resource, and personnel priorities.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a mission-driven technical leader and people manager who can bring together technical expertise, project leadership, and strong interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate is:
  • Passionate about aviation and technology and excited by the opportunity to contribute to the modernization of the National Airspace System.
  • An experienced people leader who knows how to motivate, mentor, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • A strong technical project manager who can successfully navigate complex programs, competing priorities, multiple stakeholders, and interdependent workstreams.
  • A strategic problem solver who can identify issues early, develop practical solutions, and drive them through resolution.
  • An exceptional communicator who can translate complex technical and program information into clear direction for employees, customers, and senior leadership.
  • A collaborative leader who builds trust, promotes accountability, and creates an inclusive environment where people and mission objectives can thrive.
  • Comfortable operating in a mission-critical environment where quality, reliability, security, and execution matter.
Why This Opportunity Matters
The work you do will contribute to the continued modernization of the National Airspace System and the technologies that support the safe and efficient movement of people and aircraft across the United States.
You'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced aviation, engineering, systems integration, data science, and program management professionals while leading a team responsible for a critical component of the BNATCS mission.
Bring your technical expertise. Lead with purpose. Develop great people. Help shape the future of air traffic management with Peraton.
