Job description

Operations Coordinator

VETS Junk Removal + Dumpsters Columbia is seeking a dependable, highly organized, hands-on Operations Coordinator with experience to help lead our daily junk removal and dumpster operations.

This is NOT a desk-only position.

This role combines operations management, field leadership, customer service, dispatching, estimating, and hands-on junk removal. The Operations Coordinator will oversee our Senior Team Leader, who manages our field crews, and will be responsible for ensuring our daily operation runs efficiently from the first job of the morning through the end of the day.
The person in this position must be capable of performing the same core field responsibilities as our team members—including driving company vehicles, physically removing junk, loading trailers, evaluating jobs, and providing customers with on-site quotes.

We are looking for someone who can lead from the field, not just from behind a desk.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Leadership

  • Oversee and provide direction to the Senior Team Leader responsible for managing our field crews
  • Ensure crews are properly assigned, prepared, and equipped for each day's jobs
  • Monitor field performance, productivity, professionalism, and job completion
  • Hold team members accountable to company procedures and service standards
  • Provide coaching, direction, and hands-on support to field employees
  • Conduct job-site check-ins and assist crews when necessary
  • Step into the field when coverage is needed due to call-outs, scheduling demands, large jobs, or other operational needs
  • Assist with junk removal, cleanouts, loading, hauling, and other physical field work when necessary
  • Oversees Senior team leader training for new field employees on company procedures, customer service, quoting, loading, safety, and job-site expectations
  • Identify operational problems and take initiative to resolve them
Driving & Equipment

  • Safely operate company trucks and other company vehicles
  • Tow dump trailers and/or equipment as required
  • Perform basic pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and trailer inspections
  • Ensure crews are properly caring for company vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment
  • Coordinate vehicle or equipment issues with management
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must be comfortable operating larger pickup trucks and towing trailers
Estimating & Customer Service

  • Evaluate junk removal jobs and provide accurate on-site quotes using company pricing guidelines
  • Explain pricing and services confidently to customers
  • Adjust quotes when job scope changes
  • Communicate professionally with residential and commercial customers
  • Address customer questions or concerns and resolve issues when possible
  • Ensure crews provide the level of service and professionalism expected by VETS
  • Follow up on estimates and assist with converting estimates into booked jobs

Scheduling, Dispatch & Daily Operations

  • Coordinate the daily junk removal and dumpster schedule
  • Work with the Senior Team Leader to assign crews and vehicles appropriately
  • Monitor jobs throughout the day and adjust the schedule when jobs run long, cancellations occur, or unexpected issues arise
  • Communicate schedule changes and job details to field employees
  • Optimize routing based on job locations, workload, crew availability, and disposal locations
  • Coordinate dumpster deliveries, pickups, swaps, and additional dumps
  • Ensure job notes, photos, payments, and required documentation are completed properly
  • Maintain accurate information within our CRM and other company systems
  • Communicate with management regarding staffing, equipment, scheduling, and operational issues

The ideal candidate is:

What Success Looks Like
A successful Operations Coordinator doesn't simply wait for management to identify problems.
You will be expected to know what is happening in the field, communicate with the Senior Team Leader, keep crews moving efficiently, ensure customers are taken care of, recognize problems early, and take ownership of finding solutions.
If a crew member calls out, a job is larger than expected, a truck has an issue, a customer needs a quote, or the schedule needs to be rearranged, you should be comfortable helping determine the solution—and stepping into the field yourself when necessary.
We are looking for someone who wants to take ownership of operations and help lead a growing company.
