Job description

Overview

This position supports the administration of the Sprouts Distribution Center Quality Assurance Program, ensuring compliance with company quality standards. The QA I position is responsible for assisting with the inspection of inbound and outbound loads to verify product quality and food safety standards, while identifying and communicating issues to QA leadership.

Most of the time in this role is spent on the warehouse floor performing inspections of agricultural commodities, including fruits, vegetables, and other perishable and non-perishable products.

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Inspection & Quality Assurance

Inspect inbound and outbound loads to ensure compliance with company quality standards

Examine products and packaging for damage, defects, and shortages using specification standards

Verify purchase order quantities for inbound perishable loads

Conduct daily quality inspections of all perishable inventory

Perform daily date checks and remove expired or non-compliant products

Identify and remove products that do not meet quality standards and escalate issues to QA leadership

Food Safety & Compliance

Inspect inbound trailers for signs of pests or contamination prior to unloading

Document and monitor temperatures of inbound loads; report any violations

Monitor cooler and case temperatures and escalate any deviations

Ensure adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to receiving, storage, and shipping

Ability to work off and understand how Sprouts, USDA & PACA specifications read and relate to the dally task

Inventory & Warehouse Support

Ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO) for produce and perishable items

Verify proper storage methods based on product type, turnover, and environmental requirements

Assist warehouse personnel with quality-related guidance and direction

Maintain clean and organized work areas

Documenting & Reporting

Accurately document product quantity, quality, weight, and inspection results

Maintain shipping, receiving, and production records

Track damaged or defective product and coordinate disposal or vendor returns per company procedures

Complete daily dump and damage reports and submit to QA leadership

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities & Physical Requirements)

1-2 years of experience in produce or perishable receiving and inspection preferred

Working knowledge of USDA grading standards

1-2 years of shipping and receiving experience

High school diploma or GED required
