About Us
Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications (Intern) is a full-time, entry-level athletics administration position that supports sport coverage, communications operations, and storytelling initiatives. The role emphasizes accuracy, workflow management, and sustainability during crossover seasons while providing professional development aligned with the NCAA Division II Internship Grant. The position is designed to prepare the intern for long-term career advancement in intercollegiate athletics.
The position is a one-year Internship from July 1,2026 to May 30,2027.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
Sport Coverage & Communications (40%).
  • Serve as primary sport contact (SID) for assigned programs.
  • Produce game recaps, box scores, statistics, and records.
  • Manage live stats, postgame reporting, and conference submissions.
  • Maintain accurate historical records and archives.

Communications Operations & Game-Day Support (25%)
  • Support game-day communications workflows and stat crew operations.
  • Assist with media coordination and postgame processes.
  • Support conference and NCAA reporting requirements.
  • Serve as secondary communications lead during overlapping events.

Intern Oversight & Workflow Coordination (15%)
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and supervising student interns.
  • Assign and review intern work to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reinforce communications fundamentals and professional standards.

Storytelling & Content Development (15%)
  • Contribute to feature stories and student-athlete profiles.
  • Highlight academic success, leadership, and community engagement.
  • Support season-long storytelling initiatives.

Professional Development (5%)
  • Participate in mentorship and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with documenting internship outcomes and impact.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (required by start date).
1 to 2 years of experience and be proficient with basic computer applications (Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours.
Preferred Qualifications
A degree in communications, journalism, sport management, or marketing.
Previous experience (internship, graduate assistantship, or student employment) in athletics communications, sports information, or media relations.
Familiarity with live statistics platforms (e.g., Genius Sports, NCAA LiveStats, StatCrew).
Experience assisting with sport coverage, game-day communications, or statistics.
Basic knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, particularly Division II and/or HBCU athletics.
Experience working with or supervising student workers or interns.
Interest in pursuing a long-term career in athletics communications or athletics administration.
