TITLE: Assistant Professor of Sports Management

DEPARTMENT: Exercise Science/School of Education

REPORTS TO: Chair, School of Education

CLASSIFICATION: Faculty – 9 Month

EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD

STANDARD WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week

LOCATION: On-Site Main Campus

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY:

Kentucky State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sports Management within the Exercise Science Program in the School of Education. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction primarily in the Sports Management concentration while supporting the mission and goals of the Exercise Science program. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, contributing to the University's online Master's in Sports Analytics program as assigned, advising students, participating in curriculum development and assessment, supporting program accreditation activities, and providing service to the department, college, and University.


This position requires a strong commitment to student success, instructional excellence, collaboration with faculty and staff, and active participation in the University's on-campus academic community. Regular in-person attendance is an essential function of this position.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach undergraduate courses within the Exercise Science program, including courses supporting the Sports Management concentration and related academic areas.
  • Teach graduate courses in the online Master's in Sports Analytics program as assigned.
  • Develop, revise, and assess curriculum to ensure alignment with program objectives, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in student recruitment, retention, and experiential learning opportunities, including internships and field experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to enhance academic programming and student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain instructional records and submit grades and other required reports in a timely manner.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and University committees and service activities.
  • Remain current in the discipline through professional development, scholarly or professional engagement, and participation in relevant professional organizations.
  • Maintain regular on-campus office hours and be available to students, colleagues, and University stakeholders.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • May provide supervision and oversight to student employees, teaching assistants, or research assistants as needed to support instructional or departmental activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Sports Administration, Sport Management, Physical Education, Coaching, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. A Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with an emphasis in Physical and Health Education and Coaching will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in sports management, coaching, physical education, athletics administration, or a related professional field.
  • Demonstrated potential for effective university-level teaching.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
  • Experience using instructional technology and learning management systems, including online or hybrid teaching methods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Sport Management, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or a closely related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate online courses.
  • Professional experience in athletics administration, sports management, coaching, sport analytics, or related industries.
  • Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
  • Evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative activities related to sports management or closely related disciplines.
  • Experience supervising internships, field experiences, or student research projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed primarily in classrooms, offices, laboratories, athletic facilities, and other campus instructional spaces.
  • Regular use of computers, instructional technology, and standard office equipment is required.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support instructional, recruitment, student engagement, or University activities.
  • Occasional travel may be required for professional development, conferences, internships, or other University business.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and electronically.
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods and operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to move throughout campus to classrooms, offices, laboratories, athletic facilities, and meeting locations.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move instructional materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • The successful candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
