A Specification Sales job involves working closely with architects, designers, and specifiers to get a company's products incorporated into project specifications. What does a specification sales do?

In Specification Sales, your day often includes meeting with architects, engineers, and other decision-makers to discuss and promote your company’s products for incorporation into project specifications. Outstanding relationship-building, persuasive communication, and problem-solving abilities help individuals excel in influencing decisions and collaborating with architects, engineers, and contractors. These combined skills are essential because the role involves guiding projects from concept to completion by ensuring specified products are selected and successfully integrated into designs.

  • Partner with the local sales leader and the National Commercial team to align territory activity with broader commercial strategy.
  • Conduct product knowledge presentations and continuing education (CEU) seminars (e.g., AIA, IDCEC) to educate the A&D community on MSI products, applications, and installation methods.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of MSI products, competitive offerings, industry standards, and applicable codes (e.g., LEED / sustainability considerations).
  • Represent MSI at trade shows and industry association events (e.g., ASID, AIA, IIDA, NEWH) to build brand awareness and cultivate specifier relationships.

  • Strong presentation skills, including comfort presenting to large audiences
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with strong organizational and follow-up discipline
