Job description

Under direct supervision, assist in the maintenance and landscaping of the Umstead Hotel and Spa grounds including, but not limited to: Parking lot, front drive, second entrance, spa entrance and parking lot, dog park, wedding lawn, natural areas, plant beds, terrace, pond, and pond walking trail. This position will be assigned work both Saturday and Sunday each week.

Primary Duties:

  • Assist in maintaining a quality, inviting environment for the Umstead property
  • Conduct turf maintenance, including mowing, backpack blowing, weed-eating, edging, and preparing lawns for initial seeding.
  • Fertilize and over seed lawns.
  • Provides irrigation installation and maintenance
  • Conducts chemical application when needed
  • Properly prunes trees and shrubs
  • Removes leaves from property, including blowing and leaf vacuum operation
  • Plants trees, shrubs, flowers, and bulbs as directed
  • Keeps property and streets clean of debris
  • Removes snow and ice from streets, sidewalks and parking lots
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate hand tools, small power mowers, edger, weed-eaters, and backpack blowers.
  • Ability to follow simple verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to perform manual labor on a daily basis under various weather conditions
  • Ability to regularly lift 70 pounds

Preferred Experience:

  • Preferable minimum two (2) years of landscaping experience
  • Corporate landscaping experience a plus
