Bonneville Sacramento - KHTK / Sactown Sports is looking for a Part Time Producer / Board Operator to join our team!

Position Overview

Bonneville Sacramento, home to Sactown Sports KHTK, New Country 105.1 (including Country in the Park 2-day festival), Mix 96, and NOW 100.5, is currently seeking a skilled, dependable producer / board operator to operate the technical side of our broadcast operations and help produce a daily sports talk show.

The Producer / Board Operator will produce entertaining and compelling daily programming that informs, engages, and entertains sports fans on broadcast, digital, and social platforms. They will support the on-air talent by helping produce rundowns, recording and editing audio clips, managing the video feed, and performing other duties to ensure a successful show broadcast.

The Producer / Board Operator will also work to execute a clean, polished on-air presentation. This role will operate the studio console ensuring that we are broadcasting technically excellent and flawlessly timed content to our audience (live, pre-recorded, and/or automated programming) in compliance with FCC requirements.

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.

  • This position is an onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Sacramento site.
  • The shift is M-F 9:30a -2:30pm

What You Will Do:

Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Produce and operate the technical board on a daily sports show.
  • Find, record, edit and mix audio on tight deadline
  • Recognize, conceptualize, and develop unique angles within daily news stories.
  • Provide topical background research, analyze and anticipate news, culture and entertainment trends
  • Help frame, develop and manage host(s) ideas and opinions in a way that enhances on-air product
  • Find and book guests and manage show contacts
  • Cultivate and maintain a wide range of news resources and contacts
  • Produce, edit, upload and distribute daily show podcasts
  • Contribute to show social media channels
  • Collaborate with other teams across brands and departments to maintain brand consistency and efficiently use finite station resources.
  • Set up ISDN, Comrex, Skype, etc. and manage the technical aspects of the show.
  • Conceptualize and develop production elements (or "benchmarks" and features) to enhance show/station presentation and sound.
  • Full focus and ownership of on-air console operations during a shift, to ensure a smooth airing of station's programming and reliable, timely, error-free delivery of terrestrial radio and digital media programming including: maintaining accurate transmitter and program logs, airing commercials per program logs, airing emergency alerts, recording satellite feeds, ensuring transmitter is operating according to FCC parameters, ensuring all audio elements are problem free before airing, and updating discrepancy reports with all occurrences that depart from the program log or quality goals set by station management.
  • Check studio equipment for proper functioning prior to going on-air, troubleshooting and reporting technical problems and equipment malfunctions.
  • Become an expert at our audio console, Adobe Editing, NewsBoss, and Zetta.
  • Coordinate the appropriate use of music and sound for assigned shows, and ensure that levels are mixed properly.
  • Cross-train and maintain working knowledge of all board operator shifts; fill in for team mates as needed.
  • Screen phone calls as needed.
  • Work with producers to create, organize, and broadcast "best of" content.

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

  • Working knowledge of sports, particularly in the Sacramento market
  • Able to produce and edit audio.
  • Ability to edit video, preferred.
  • Proven ability for accuracy (attention to detail) and follow-through and ability to multi-task effectively in a fast paced, collaborative, deadline driven team environment.
  • Ability to understand and execute format philosophy and work with a team of other professionals in creating a distinctive sound.
  • Ability to accept direction and be flexible with changes.
  • Ability to clearly and accurately communicate, receive and interpret instructions and maintain effective communication with co-workers.
  • Willing to accept responsibility and work under moderate supervision while resolving varied problems, which require general knowledge of company's policies and procedures.
  • Able to work under pressure and effectively handle the stresses of the responsibilities of the position and assure on-air hosts receive material for broadcast on time as the services performed affect company image, clients and the listening audience. Errors may incur financial or time loss.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Experience in operation of broadcast equipment and ability to properly operate studio equipment and possess basic production skills, preferred.
  • Experience in execution of live, play-by-play sports broadcasting, preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating remote connections, either in studio or on-site, preferred.
  • One (1+) years commercial broadcast experience or equivalent, preferred.
  • Proficiency in sound production and audio editing, including editing programs (Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, Audacity), preferred.
  • Highly creative in use of sound, production elements, and show ideas, preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Compensation

$20.60 - $22.28 This rate spans multiple levels for this role.

Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data. The pay range provided here spans multiple levels of this job.
