Job description

Location: 205 Tryon Rd.
Position Type: Full-time
Compensation: $11.00/hour, plus benefits
About this opportunity:
Receives, sorts, prices, and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the storage and sorting area. Assists customers in donating, locating and/or selecting store items; stocks and arranges store items in a neat and orderly manner; monitors the store displays and performs various cleaning activities to ensure the store is properly maintained.
Key responsibilities:
  • Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition.
  • Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.
  • Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
  • Hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.
  • Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly, assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area.
  • Prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer/rag truck.
  • Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.
  • Maintains storage area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.
  • Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
  • Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area, may assist with hauling donations to the storage area; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.
  • Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customer's have handled.

What we are looking for in you:
  • No formal education or experience required. Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service case management.

Ability to sort items in accordance with established categories.
  • Ability to determine the condition of items in accordance with established standards.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to maintain the store displays in a neat and orderly manner.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to communicate the English language.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.).
  • Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
