The Position
This position will report directly to the project Site Manager in Las Vegas, NV. The Field Technician will be responsible for assigned aspects of the maintenance and operation of utility scale PV power plant. Duties include monitoring PV Plant operation through SCADA, commissioning, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying AC and DC solar PV systems, including inverters, PV module arrays, transformers, switchgear, trackers, and metering systems. Additionally, this position is responsible for the supervision of contractors to ensure safe, high quality and timely performance of maintenance activities in the field.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure a safe work environment through strict adherence to company and client protocols, safety procedures and regulations. Ensure compliance with all safety requirements and safe best practices (e.g. lock-out/tag-out compliance, JHA completion, and compliance with all company safety policies or procedures and work practices).
  • Attend, participate in and pass all assigned training in safety, environmental and other areas assigned.
  • Understanding of electrical safety, local and national electrical codes and arc flash standards.
  • Proficient understanding of Electrical schematics and electrical principles.
  • Always maintain integrity and follow Arevon safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform varying corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance for solar PV systems.
  • Perform onsite installations, repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Carry out site root analysis and apply root cause analysis techniques on all major and recurring faults.
  • Investigate technical failures and prepare formal technical reports.
  • Collaborate with internal Arevon teams to collect and produce data for various agencies that require reporting documents (NERC, EPA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Ability to create and follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Proficient understanding of Electrical schematics and electrical principles.
  • Ability to perform testing, switching and troubleshooting of low, medium, and high voltage equipment, including transformers, breakers, relays, contactors, motors, trackers, DC array and inverters to name a few.
  • Capable of retrieving relay files and submitting to engineering for review.
  • Assist with writing and enforcing work and equipment testing instructions and procedures, including normal and maintenance operating procedures.
  • Ensure CMMS work orders are complete in their entirety. Prepare documents necessary for procurement and utilization of materials and vendor services.
  • Perform testing using IV Curve Tracers, Power Quality Meters, Insulation Resistance Testers, Multimeters, and other equipment, as needed.
  • Keep track of quality, quantity, and stock levels of all materials on the sites.
  • Proven computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office Products) are required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Self-directed and accountable, able to think critically about processes and issues.
  • Communicate cross-functionally across all necessary parts of the organization to achieve resolution to plant issues.
  • Maintain work area and site housecleaning to company standards.
  • Must be available for night, overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required.
  • May be required to support job responsibilities as needed outside of scheduled work hours.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • 3 years of direct experience as a PV solar technician or 6 years' experience in a non-solar electrical maintenance role.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills.
  • Valid U.S. Driver license with acceptable MVR history.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers and vendors.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel/composite toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift.
  • Will lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call for emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CEC license or technical degree preferred. Electrical certifications, state, journeyman, etc. a plus.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining power plant electrical systems, SCADA and controls systems operation, troubleshooting advanced electrical components, and using procedures to perform equipment preventative and corrective maintenance preferred.
  • Familiar with CMMS systems for maintenance tracking.
  • Strong Understanding of renewable energy technology.
