Job description

SUMMARY

The R&D Engineer Co-op is responsible for coordinating and managing laboratory experiments, experimental design and laboratory equipment required for new product development and sustaining engineering activities. This role exposes the Co-op to experimental design and processes, test equipment and documentation processes in compliance with ISO 13485 and the FDA’s Quality System Regulations for medical devices.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work alongside R&D team to support design and development of new products:
    • Assist with 3D CAD using SolidWorks (with support of Mechanical Engineers)
    • Assemble and test prototypes (with support of Mechanical and Systems Engineers)
    • Develop test methods to demonstrate designs meet specifications (with support of Systems and Quality Engineers)
    • Conduct verification testing according to pre-defined protocols (with support of Systems Engineers and Lab Technician)
    • Analyze and present testing data using statistical analysis software (Minitab) in the form of written reports (with support of Quality Engineers)
    • Maintain lab equipment, including calibrations and preventative maintenance (with support of Lab Technician)
    • Develop and assemble specialized test fixtures and test equipment (with support of Lab Technician and Systems Engineers)
  • Work alongside Quality Engineering team to support Continuous Improvement projects:
    • Communicate with3rd Party Testing Resources and Suppliers on failure investigation results and test data
    • Conduct failure investigations on product failures and NCMRs
    • Provide routine communications and management updates on progress

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Current Engineering Student or 4 Year Engineering Degree
  • Ability to lift/carry 40 lbs
  • Solidworks and Minitab experience a plus
