How does a Software Manager typically balance hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities?

Software Managers often juggle both technical and leadership duties, but the balance can vary depending on the organization and team size. In many cases, Software Managers spend a significant portion of their time on people management tasks such as mentoring team members, conducting code reviews, planning sprints, and facilitating communication between stakeholders. However, they may also remain involved in architectural decisions or critical technical challenges to stay connected with the team's work. Job description

CoVantage Credit Union is seeking a Senior Software Solutions Architect to drive our architecture vision and advance AI-powered solutions across our digital channels.

In this role, you’ll design scalable, secure systems and collaborate with product, engineering, IT, and business teams to integrate AI into staff and member experiences. With a focus on Microsoft technologies and Azure PaaS, you’ll modernize legacy platforms, promote automation, and elevate development through AI-driven innovation.

As a CoVantage team member, you’ll receive a 401k employer match of up to 200%, a bonus of annual salary up to 4%, a generous employer HSA contribution, and paid time off for community service.

Job Duties

  • Serves as the primary architectural authority for all critical and strategic custom software initiatives across the credit union
  • Defines and governs software architecture standards, patterns, and best practices
  • Leads architectural design for applications, integrations, and platforms with a strong emphasis on Microsoft and Azure PaaS technologies
  • Drives modernization of legacy systems through IaaS-to-PaaS migrations to improve scalability, security, and maintainability
  • Champions the adoption of AI-powered tools and practices to streamline repetitive development tasks such as code generation, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting—freeing up engineering capacity for higher-value work
  • Ensures software solutions are aligned with business goals by evaluating architectural options based on time, effort, cost, and business impact
  • Works closely with Enterprise Architecture, Product Management, engineering teams, and business units to ensure technology solutions support and accelerate business objectives
  • Establishes and drives automation across the software development lifecycle including CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment processes
  • Defines and evolves the Internal Development Platform (IDP), identifying which capabilities should be centralized versus owned by individual development teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience (8+ years) in software development with progressive responsibility in software or solution architecture roles
  • Strong experience designing and leading software architectures
  • Deep expertise with Microsoft technologies, including .NET, C#, SQL Server, and Azure cloud platforms, especially Azure PaaS services
  • Deep expertise with serverliess compute capabilities in Azure, including Azure Container Apps and Azure functions
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications and leading cloud migration initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of application integration patterns, APIs, security, scalability, and performance
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, development automation, and platform-based developer tooling
  • Ability to clearly communicate architectural decisions and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead through influence, balance hands-on technical work with strategic responsibilities, and drive results
