Job description

CTG is seeking to fill a Software Engineer III opening for our client.
Location: Buffalo, NY
Duration: 12 months
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and contribute to complex systems analysis, application design, development, testing, and implementation efforts.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource and principal application designer for critical applications, components, and major enhancements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and modern cloud technologies.
  • Develop and integrate enterprise APIs and SaaS solutions using industry-standard practices, including OAuth 2.0, retries, idempotency, validation, and reconciliation.
  • Design and implement solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure, including cloud development, integration, security, observability, resiliency, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and technical design through development, testing, deployment, and user acceptance testing.
  • Prepare and review test data, execute detailed test plans, troubleshoot defects, and perform debugging and performance tuning.
  • Evaluate complex interrelationships among applications, programs, interfaces, platforms, and enterprise systems.
  • Develop and maintain clear technical and functional specifications, system documentation, diagrams, and other technical materials.
  • Assess project requirements, develop task estimates and timelines, and contribute to technical components of project plans.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, technology, business, and vendor teams to establish technical direction and deliver solutions.
  • Maintain the efficiency, reliability, security, and effectiveness of supported applications.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, development practices, vendor software, and technical solutions and recommend improvements.
  • Promote adherence to software development standards, procedures, security requirements, and architectural best practices.
  • Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and leadership to less experienced developers and technical resources.
  • Support application modernization and SaaS migration initiatives.
  • Contribute to risk management, regulatory compliance, internal controls, audit requirements, and organizational technology standards.
  • Participate in cost/benefit analysis, technical assessments, due diligence, business studies, and other strategic technology initiatives as needed.

Scope of Responsibilities:
The Software Engineer III works under the direction of Technology management and is expected to work independently on complex systems analysis, application development, and technical assignments. The position provides senior-level technical expertise across all phases of application development and may lead technical activities for projects of varying scope and complexity.
The position regularly interacts with senior management, technology personnel, business stakeholders, vendors, and other project teams. The Software Engineer III may coordinate the work of other technical resources, monitor project activities and milestones, and provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff. The position may also serve as a technical representative on committees, special projects, and other technology initiatives.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced developers and project resources.
  • Coordinate development activities and monitor assigned technical tasks to ensure successful delivery.
  • Assist with project planning, estimates, milestones, schedules, and technical deliverables.
  • Monitor the progress and effectiveness of assigned resources and provide technical guidance as appropriate.
  • Support management with technical assessments, project planning, and other leadership responsibilities as needed.

Education and Experience Required:
  • Minimum of an Associate's degree and 6 years of systems analysis/application development experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years of higher education and/or work experience, including at least 6 years of systems analysis/application development experience.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Strong experience developing and integrating REST APIs.
  • Experience with concurrent programming, automated testing, debugging, performance tuning, and application optimization.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud development and integration.
  • Experience with cloud security, observability, resiliency, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Experience working with enterprise APIs and SaaS migration initiatives.
  • Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, API retries, idempotency, validation, and reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with application development software, hardware platforms, and enterprise technology environments.
  • Experience working on multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting technical information to varied audiences.
  • Experience coordinating between application development teams and business units.
  • Demonstrated experience recommending and implementing technology solutions.
  • Experience driving project milestones and delivery dates.
  • Proven mentoring, technical leadership, and project coordination capabilities.

Education and Experience Preferred:
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application frameworks and development standards.
  • Subject matter expertise in supported business applications and systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of interfacing and integrated applications across enterprise environments.
  • Experience with application modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
  • Experience with SaaS integration and migration.
  • Strong understanding of the overall application ecosystem and ability to contribute to initiatives outside of normal business-as-usual activities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to multitask across multiple components of complex projects.
  • Experience working with highly regulated enterprise environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud-native application architecture, security, monitoring, and resiliency practices.
