The Software Engineering Manager role is responsible for leading and managing the team of software engineers containing front-end, backend and full-stack engineers. The focus of the Software Engineering Manager will be on developing the people and processes that contribute to the timely delivery of innovative, secure, and high-quality solutions. This role will partner with DevSecOps and Software Architecture teams within MPC. This role will be a hands-on manager for the team to ensure the successful design, development, testing, and maintenance of high-quality solutions to support the MPC business.
To ensure success as a Software Engineering Manager, you should have extensive experience in software engineering in dynamic environments with emerging technologies, while possessing the ability to solve complex business problems using technology. The Software Engineering Manager should also develop a deep understanding of how our products are built and contribute technically to solutions. The Software Engineering Manager should also foster a strong working relationship with the various Product Leaders and Discipline Leaders across the organization to support optimal outcomes for our business.
The Software Engineering Manager should lead, guide, and set direction for the software engineering team. The Software Engineering Manager will also be responsible for employee development, performance reviews, pay reviews, and staffing decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Manages daily operations of the team, providing guidance, mentorship, and driving culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Oversees recruitment, development, retention, and performance to build strong talent.
- Plans and leads low- to medium-complexity IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and adhere to quality standards.
- Ensures the availability, reliability, and security of technology systems. Collaborates with key stakeholders and internal groups to identify needs, deliver effective solutions, and support business objectives.
- Drives excellence in software delivery using agile methodologies and DevSecOps principles, ensuring fast, frequent, and secure product releases with operational excellence.
- Establishes and aligns engineering roadmaps with business objectives, participates in architectural discussions, and ensures consistency across solutions.
- Communicates effectively with stakeholders at all levels, fostering feedback loops and providing clear updates on delivery progress, risks, and achievements.
- Leads the team through change and transformation initiatives.
- Manage budgets, track metrics, ensure compliance with IT policies and standards and identify opportunities for technology adoption and process optimization.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other computer-related degree required.
- 10+ years of diversified IT experience required.
- 3+ years of experience leading professional staff required.
- Strong understanding of software development design and Agile practices/methodologies
- Excellent knowledge of software reliability best practices and automated testing is preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of C++, C# or Java, Python, JavaScript, Blazor or ReactJS or Angular
- Excellent knowledge of DBMS as well as TSQL or PL/SQL
- Working knowledge of DevSecOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Azure DevOps), Infrastructure as Code concepts, and application security practices preferred.
- Experience migrating monolithic architectures to a modern technology stack
- Experience developing for cloud-native solutions (i.e., Azure).
- Strong Experience with development platforms (i.e., Azure, Salesforce, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience in building APIs for both internal and external products.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, decision making and communication skills.
- Background and experience in Oil & Gas industry preferred
