This can include building systems for policy management, claims processing, customer portals, and data analysis tools. They work closely with business analysts, project managers, and other stakeholders to create solutions that improve efficiency, compliance, and customer experience. Their role may also involve ensuring the security and reliability of sensitive customer and financial data.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Engineer in an insurance company, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Engineer in an insurance company, you need strong programming skills (e.g., Java, Python, C#), knowledge of software development methodologies, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with industry-specific platforms (such as Guidewire), cloud services, and familiarity with regulatory compliance systems are highly valued. Job description

Job Summary:
AI Foundry is an AI building and consulting business working with some of the largest companies in the world. The team is seeking AI Software Engineers to build insurance applications and internal tools, integrating AI capabilities to simplify insurance complexities while working closely with product managers and engineering teams.
Responsibilities:
• Build and ship AI-native insurance applications, internal tools, service workflows, and platform capabilities across the full stack.
• Design and implement LLM-powered workflows for claims, underwriting, policy servicing, agent support, customer support, and operational automation.
• Write clean, production-quality code in the language the work requires, with comfort across Python, TypeScript, React, or comparable modern frameworks.
• Own features end to end from concept through deployment, including APIs, data flows, interfaces, observability, and iteration.
• Integrate model capabilities, retrieval systems, agent orchestration, guardrails, evaluation loops, and human-in-the-loop workflows into real products.
• Work closely with product managers, architects, insurance operators, and overseas engineering teams to translate complex workflows into usable software.
• Move quickly: prototype, validate, and deliver working software in days or weeks while maintaining sound engineering judgment.
• Support calls with overseas engineering teams to review code, unblock progress, present technical approaches, and raise the quality bar.
• Stay current on AI development and continuously improve how you build with AI tools.
• Travel to India 8+ times per year to work directly with client and engineering teams.
Qualifications:
Required:
• You have a track record of building and shipping real software products, not just prototypes or research demos.
• You are strong in multiple coding languages and comfortable using them to build production systems, services, automations, and AI-enabled workflows.
• You can work across the stack, including frontend, backend, APIs, databases, deployment, and operational tooling.
• You understand AI-native application patterns, including LLM integration, agentic architectures, retrieval, evaluation, and guardrails.
• You can learn domain-heavy workflows quickly and turn insurance process complexity into reliable software.
• You know how to code quickly without letting speed become an excuse for brittle systems or sloppy design.
• You use AI tools extensively in your own engineering workflow and keep improving how you build with them.
• You are comfortable with ambiguity and can make progress when requirements are incomplete or changing.
• You are willing to prototype to prove a point, then refine the work into something maintainable.
• You communicate clearly with product, engineering, operations, and executive stakeholders across time zones.
• You are collaborative and collegial, able to push for correctness without becoming a know-it-all.
• You are energized by building from scratch in a high-scale, regulated domain.
