GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Packaging Engineer will develop and approve packaging for new product development and existing process improvements. This role will support packaging requirements from suppliers to customer delivery. The packaging engineer works closely with multiple cross functional teams to develop cost effective and sustainable solutions to optimize process flow and quality.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
  • Set requirements for packaging in new product and process development to support packaging strategic objectives.
  • Design and test packaging to protect inbound, internal and outbound parts/product from shipping and handling damage.
  • Design containers to support supply chain, material flow and line presentation with lean manufacturing process flow objectives.
  • Procure packaging solutions for new product development projects that meet quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Provide analysis of returnable packaging inventory requirements to management to support production volume and material stocking strategy.
  • Coordinate packaging development with supplier owned packaging.
  • Collaborate with Supplier Quality Team to complete PPAP documentation.
  • Define and monitor packaging repair processes to maintain safe and efficient material flow.
  • Create and update packaging and labelling standards to support supply chain and internal packaging development.
  • Support sustainability objectives by minimizing expendable material and process waste.
  • Identify and execute packaging cost saving opportunities by taking advantage of emerging packaging industry products and technologies.
  • Use 3D CAD software to review and measure pre-released product designs and develop packaging concepts.
  • Respond to production line parts damage issues by investigating root cause and implementing corrective action with packaging solutions where appropriate.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Sciences, Engineering (Industrial or Mechanical) or related discipline.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain and/or logistics experience desirable.
  • 3D CAD experience preferred (PTC Creo and Windchill or similar)
KEY COMPETENCIES
  • Working knowledge of material flow and lean manufacturing systems.
  • Strong project and time management skills with emphasis working with cross functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Travel should be less than 10%
