Copper Mountain Resort is a vacation destination located 75 miles west of Denver, Colorado in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Three vibrant, pedestrian-friendly village areas host lodging, retail outlets, restaurants, bars, and family activities. During the winter months, Copper's world-class terrain offers skiing and riding for all ages and abilities. Each summer, the mountain transforms into a playground for hikers, mountain bikers, and anyone seeking a genuine Colorado experience. Copper Mountain Resort is also home to Woodward Copper action-sports camps, programs, and training facility.

Job Title: Certified Adult Snowboard School Instructor

Job Status: Seasonal

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation: Proposed hiring rate of $21.00 to $27.00+, actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

  • Benefits: This is a seasonal position eligible for season pass for employees/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Several discount programs (i.e. food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) also available.

Job Summary:

We are looking for AASI level 1+2+3 Snowboard Instructors!

Seasonal positions to begin in December and end mid-April. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be available to work weekends and holidays. Must have at least one season of teaching. The minimum amount of days is subject to change. Looking for individuals who demonstrate an enthusiasm for snowboarding and enjoy educating all ages and ability levels. This position will be primarily working with our Adult students; ages 18 and up, with the expectation of teaching in the youth school and youth programs, ages 3-17, as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Ski and Ride School Instructor will ensure the best possible experience for the Copper Mountain guest, working on an individual basis and as a part of the overall of the mission of the resort. Instructors will lead group classes while focusing on individual engagement and progression. The instructor faces key challenges on creating guest loyalty through great experiences in a short time frame. The instructor will successfully instill confidence in teaching snowboarding ability to our guests. Provide an unsurpassed mountain vacation experience every day.

Performance Objectives:

  • Develops a rapport with students quickly, establishing a connection with the students. Learning names, welcoming new students with warmth. The lesson starts before the lesson starts.

  • Has a serious focus on safety and whereabouts of all students. Weaves safety culture into teaching: Safety is a habit, not a lecture. Asking students safety questions rather than stating rules. Uses terrain to produce safe movement.

  • Identifies different learning styles among students and can effectively demonstrate different teaching styles to reflect them.

  • Understands what the beginner ski progressions are for different age levels of students and can demonstrate them to the class. Additionally, the instructor will be able to identify ability level in students and split them into groups by ability level when needed.

  • Engages the class 100% of the time, while simultaneously focusing on individual and unique student needs. Reads when a plan isn't working and changes course without making it a big deal.

  • Models the values, philosophy, and mission statement of Copper Mountain Resort; Inspire every human being with cool experiences in awesome places.

  • Acts as a real team member, cooperating with all employees, including fellow SRS instructors, supervisors, and employees from all other departments.

  • Responds quickly and effectively to a wide variety of situations including possible emergencies while maintaining composure and keeping students and fellow employees calm.

  • Manages personal stress levels and can maintain balance between work and personal life.

  • When working with children: Supervising children in class always; assisting at lunch and snack times; ensuring return of children to identified guardian.

  • Assisting in operational responsibilities of Ski & Ride programs including but not limited to registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.

  • Actions are in accordance with Copper Mountain Resort's Standards of Business Conduct

  • Behavior is aligned with the policies and procedures outlined in Copper Mountain Resort's handbook and SRS training.

  • Assist other departments in their operational responsibilities when needed, including but not limited to Events/Competitions and Lift Operations.

Basic Requirements:

  • Good physical condition.

  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.

  • Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a criminal background check will be conducted after position is accepted. This background check will be done in accordance with standards enacted under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

  • Must be fluent in all aspects of the English language

  • Must have sight, speech, and hearing abilities sufficient to learn skills, follow and provide directions

  • Must have a minimum of AASI Level 1 or international equivalent

  • Must own snowboard equipment

  • Must be at least 18 years old

Preferred Experience and Special Skills:

  • Minimum 2 years' instructing experience strongly preferred.
