As a snowboarding instructor, you help people learn how to snowboard and, if applicable, progress toward their next certification level. You customize each course or lesson based on factors like the experience of your students and the snowboarding routes that are safe to traverse. Other duties and responsibilities may include teaching people how to ski at a resort, explaining various types of snow, and working with students of all ages. You must be familiar with snowboarding equipment and able to remain positive while providing repetitive lessons. Most snowboarding instructors live near mountains and designated teaching areas at resorts, but a few live near artificial indoor training areas.
| Aspect | Snowboarding Instructor | Ski Instructor |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | CPR, First Aid, Snowboarding certifications (e.g., PSIA-AASI Snowboard Certification) | CPR, First Aid, Ski certifications (e.g., PSIA-AASI Ski Certification) |
| Work Environment | Snowboarding terrain, ski resorts, snow parks | Ski slopes, ski resorts, snow parks |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Resort ski schools, snowboarding academies | Ski schools, winter sports resorts |
Both Snowboarding Instructors and Ski Instructors work in winter resort environments, teaching their respective sports. They require similar certifications and often work for the same employers. The main difference lies in the sport they teach: snowboarding versus skiing. If you're passionate about snowboarding and want to teach others, becoming a Snowboarding Instructor is ideal. Conversely, if skiing is your focus, a Ski Instructor role is suitable.
