Overview

Teach guests how to snowboard and enjoy the winter environment.  A love of the sport and the desire to continually improve both personal riding skills and teaching ability are important.

Responsibilities

The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this classification and are not all-inclusive of the specific position.

  • Must be comfortable setting up an environment conducive to safety, fun and learning.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with students, supervisors, managers, and other team members.
  • Must have a genuine desire to pass on knowledge of the sport and inspire others to enjoy it.
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme and quickly changing winter weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a physically challenging environment.
  • Must be able to maintain a great guest service attitude while working with beginner students on green terrain throughout the season.
  • Must have availability during holiday periods (December 26th – 31st, January 16th – 18th, February 13th – 15th).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Organize and conduct both group and private snowboard lessons for guests.
  • Demonstrate and communicate proper snowboard techniques in accordance with the guidelines established by the Highlands Snowsports School and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI).
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the policies and procedures of the resort Team Member Handbook and the Snowsports School Manual.

Qualifications

Qualifications

· 18 + years of age.

· Must be reliable, dependable, and timely.

· PSIA/AASI Certified Level 1 status is strongly encouraged (or international equivalent).

· Must have a genuine desire to pass on knowledge of the sport and inspire others to enjoy it.

· A great guest service personality.

· A growth mindset (an openness to learning and feedback).

· Basic English language skills.

· Previous experience in snowboard instructing preferred.

Physical Demands:

· Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

· Must be able to ride for up to 8 hours per day.

· Must able to teach snowboard lessons in harsh winter weather (cold, snow, wind, rain, sleet, ice).

Work Environment:

· The instructor work environment is primarily outdoors in the winter weather. Temperature can vary greatly throughout the day and from day-to-day.

· Must be able to ride in snow, low visibility, powder, ice, hard pack, rain, sleet.
