Job description

Job Summary
Small cafe in Passaic, NJ is seeking a talented cook to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for preparing delicious meals for our customers. The ideal candidate is experienced, creative, and able to delegate tasks to kitchen staff. If you have a passion for creating meals that “wow,” we want to hear from you. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Follow directions from the Owner/Head Chef and follow through with set menus
  • Assist Owner/Head Chef with creating menus according to season and customer research
  • Cooking of traditional Mexican and American food
  • Cooking of Various Authentic International Foods as determined by the Owner/Head Chef
  • Presentation of all dishes in an appealing manner
  •  Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  •  Inventory maintenance – Requisitioning or purchasing/ordering of supplies.  Maintaining optimal inventory levels and minimizing waste and implementing cost-saving strategies.
  • Monitoring product quality and consistency.
  • Follow all food safety regulations
  • Motivating and fostering a positive work environment
Qualifications
  • Previous cooking experience in commercial kitchen, small cafe or deli
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food decorating techniques
  • Ability to take direction from the Owner/Head Chef 
  • Knowledge of cooking of authentic Mexican foods
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of culinary techniques and recipes
  • Certification from culinary school a plus
  • Knowledge of health code laws and food safety standards
  • Training in food safety - ServeSafe or Food Handler’s Certification is a plus
  • Inventory control skills
  • Ability to handle a fast paced work environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Bilingual – Fluent verbal & written communication in both English & Spanish
  • Excellent time management skills
