Job description

Job Title: Maintenance Planner / Scheduler
Job Description

This role supports maintenance planning activities by coordinating the estimating, planning, and scheduling of both mechanical and electrical work. You will use a systems-based approach to scope jobs, estimate labor and costs, identify and procure materials, and manage work orders in SAP. The position requires strong teamwork, communication, and the ability to work independently while ensuring maintenance activities are well planned, organized, and executed safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning activities for area supervisors and area maintenance technicians to ensure timely and efficient completion of maintenance work.
  • Create detailed job plans for repetitive maintenance procedures, covering both mechanical and electrical tasks.
  • Manage the SAP work order backlog for the assigned area, including both mechanical and electrical work orders.
  • Plan and schedule jobs within the area of responsibility, estimating cost, labor, and completion time for each task.
  • Manage and control parts and materials required for work orders, ensuring availability when needed.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with vendors to support material and service needs.
  • Lead weekly planning meetings and shutdown planning activities in collaboration with operations leadership.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date work order list in SAP, using proper codes and documentation standards.
  • Estimate hours by operation step to support accurate planning and resource allocation.
  • Ensure all parts are delivered and on site for planned work orders prior to execution.
  • Meet all job planning package requirements, including documentation, materials, and scheduling details.
  • Manage and optimize bills of material (BOM) to support maintenance activities and improve efficiency.
  • Monitor temporary repairs and ensure they are tracked and addressed with permanent solutions.
  • Coordinate the entry of material and service requisitions to support maintenance work.
  • Enter preventive maintenance (PM) tasks into the SAP system and ensure they are properly set up.
  • Track preventive maintenance performance and use data to support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with maintenance, operations, and other stakeholders, communicating needs and updates in real time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support maintenance planning and operational reliability.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance planning experience with knowledge of recognized maintenance planning practices.
  • Hands-on experience with maintenance planning software and systems, including SAP, ERP, and CMMS platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and process work orders effectively within a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Experience with schedule planning, including estimating labor, cost, and completion times for maintenance activities.
  • Understanding of predictive maintenance concepts and their application in a maintenance planning environment.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with supervisors, technicians, and operations personnel.
  • Excellent communication and soft skills, with the ability to articulate needs and updates clearly in real time.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple work orders and planning activities simultaneously.
  • Consistent, reliable attendance and a strong sense of ownership over assigned responsibilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally up to approximately 15% of the time, as required by the role.

  • Experience using SAP for maintenance planning, including work order management, PM setup, and BOM optimization.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.06 - $31.06/hr.
