What is a showroom associate?

Showroom associates are customer service professionals who work in retail showrooms, assisting customers with product selection, providing information about merchandise, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. They are responsible for maintaining the appearance of the showroom, answering customer inquiries, and sometimes processing sales transactions. Showroom associates play a key role in helping customers make informed purchasing decisions and represent the brand or company to the public.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a showroom associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Showroom Associate, you need strong interpersonal skills, product knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and customer relationship management (CRM) tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, active listening, and a customer-focused attitude help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure effective customer engagement, smooth sales transactions, and a positive showroom experience that drives business success.

How does a showroom associate typically collaborate with sales and design teams to enhance the customer experience?

Showroom Associates often work closely with both sales and design teams to ensure customers receive personalized service and expert guidance. They help facilitate communication by gathering customer preferences and relaying that information to sales consultants or designers, who can then offer tailored solutions. This collaboration helps create a seamless experience for clients, from initial browsing to final purchase decisions, and allows associates to learn from other specialists, which can be valuable for professional growth.

Job description

Location: Fletcher Wakefield Design Center, Stamford, CT
Position Type: Full-Time, In-Person
Fletcher Wakefield is a to-the-trade showroom in Stamford, CT serving interior designers across Fairfield County and the Tri-State area. We are seeking an energetic, polished, and personable Showroom Sales Associate to create an exceptional experience for every designer and guest who visits us.
Our clients expect a high-touch, high-end experience, and this role is central to delivering it. You'll be the first point of contact in the showroom, build relationships with our clients, and help designers find exactly what they need. You don't need to come in knowing the design world inside and out, but you should be eager to learn it, and excited to grow within an established, creative team. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days look the same.
Responsibilities
  • Welcoming every designer and guest who visits the showroom, making sure they feel taken care of and find what they need
  • Answering questions about products, vendors, and the showroom's offerings
  • Helping clients with their purchases, both off-the-floor and custom special orders
  • Building product knowledge across our vendor lines so you can guide clients with confidence
  • Assisting with showroom events, including planning, setup, and day-of coordination (some events take place in the evenings or on weekends)
  • Answering phones and handling general showroom inquiries
  • Supporting day-to-day logistics — order follow-up, vendor coordination, and keeping the showroom floor polished and presentable

Qualifications
  • A warm, professional demeanor and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service; Experience in high-end retail or luxury customer service strongly preferred
  • An eagerness to learn about interior design and our products; Prior interior design experience is a plus
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; familiarity with design software is a plus
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend events
  • Must be able to lift and move materials as needed
Compensation: $55,000-65,000/year + performance bonus
