Job description

The shop clerk's main duties include working closely with others to assure materials move quickly through the shop and are properly tagged for shipping. The shop clerk uses basic computer skills to track materials, assist with work order construction, and communicate with others regarding materials that are missing as well as due dates. As a shop clerk, one is responsible for tracking backorders, creating checklists and stickers, and assisting scope item managers and project managers with material issues. A shop clerk should have organization skills as many work orders will be active at once on the shop floor and will require attention to details.
Overall Responsibilities:
  • Reading drawings and work orders
  • Creating/Entering checklists based upon materials called out for on takeoffs and drawings
  • Creating shipping stickers
  • Pull and organize hardware materials for work orders following proper pulling procedures via receiving, prepare for dispersion to cabinet makers
  • Complete work orders as assigned by management (Analyze material quality, checking sizes of materials, tag materials for shipping)
  • Assist cabinet makers in finding missing materials, keeping track of due dates
  • Maintain outstanding backorders log based upon missing materials from checklists
  • Email weekly updated outstanding backorders log to PMs, Sims, and others; keep cabinet makers updated to their missing items.
  • Track backorders, update due dates, delivery locations, cancelled or changed items, etc.
  • Disperse backorders to proper cabinet makers once orders arrive in to be marked for shipping
  • Work closely with Scope Item Managers and Cabinet Makers for material inquiries
  • Take billing photographs for project management of job materials during various storage and completion phases, log photos in proper computer folders
