Job description

Position Summary:

The Sewing Instructor will provide comprehensive sewing instruction to individuals served teaching valuable skills that can aid in their rehabilitation and reintegration into society for the Red Tent Women's Initiative program. The instructor will develop and deliver a curriculum tailored to the unique environment and needs of the jail system and out of jail community settings, fostering a supportive and safe learning environment. This position is ambulatory working in different jails or established community jail diversion facilities as cleared and assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Teach sewing classes and creation of projects to individuals served, covering a range of skills from basic to advanced sewing techniques.
  • Demonstrate techniques and provide hands-on assistance to participants.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit different learning styles and skill levels within the population.
  • Develop and prepare lesson plans and instructional materials as appropriate for setting.
  • Create projects that teach various sewing techniques and skills, with a focus on practical and employable skills.
  • Update curriculum as needed to incorporate new techniques and trends, ensuring relevance and applicability.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and organized classroom environment in accordance with facility protocols.
  • Assist team to manage class schedules and student attendance, ensuring compliance with facility protocols.
  • Ensure all students have access to necessary materials and equipment, adhering to facility protocols.
  • Provide individual support and feedback to individuals served, encouraging skill development and project completion.
  • Foster a positive and respectful learning environment, promoting personal growth and resiliency.
  • Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress, and completed projects.
  • Coordinate the order and maintain program supplies and equipment that comply with security protocols.
  • Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation
  • Completes all orientation and mandated training activities, including E-Learning Courses, within required timeframes, and in accordance with the criteria established for this position.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Excellent sewing skills, including knowledge of various techniques and equipment.
