About this Role
We are a small, highly technical writing team embedded in the Product org at Lightmatter. We own all customer-facing technical content for our hardware and software products - giving engineers and researchers at the leading edge of AI and high-performance computing everything they need to get up and running fast.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Technical Writer, you will be key in defining the voice and structure of Lightmatter's customer-facing content. Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead technical writing activities for critical customer-facing product content, including hardware and software documentation for silicon photonics products such as data sheets, user guides, API documentation, release notes, and product briefs.
- Drive content strategy, governance, and quality standards across all documentation outputs, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with Lightmatter's innovative product vision.
- Collaborate extensively with Engineering, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Sales Teams to seamlessly integrate documentation with product development and release cycles.
- Architect and manage authoring and publishing pipelines utilizing a DITA XML-based structured authoring environment and Git-based repositories.
- Define and maintain scalable information architecture, metadata frameworks, and content models to optimize content reuse and simplify complexity.
- Integrate documentation systems with engineering and PM tools (e.g., connecting Jira tasks to documentation status, using GitBook to automate documentation updates, and so on).
- Configure and maintain cascading style sheets (CSS) within documentation platforms (e.g., Oxygen XML) to adapt content for web and PDF outputs.
- Pioneer the use of AI tools within the documentation lifecycle to accelerate content generation and partner with IT to pilot and scale AI-enabled authoring workflows.
- Collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to extract highly complex solution details and transform them into clear, modular, and consumable documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of professional experience in semiconductor technical writing, including at least two years in a leadership capacity. Expertise in DITA XML, structured authoring, and Component Content Management System (CCMS) platforms, preferably with proficiency in Oxygen XML Editor.
- Experience developing and maintaining custom plugins and enhancements such as DITA-OT, XSLT, and CSS.
- Experience in publishing workflows and version control systems (such as Git).
- Proven ability to identify and implement productivity tools and automation (for example, customized review/approval workflows, dynamic asset libraries) for a scalable modern platform.
- Familiarity with generative AI tools and proven ability to define their practical application in documentation.
- Excellent communication, project management, and proven ability for cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficiency with relevant documentation tools such as MS Office Suite, MS Visio, and Adobe Acrobat/Framemaker/Photoshop/Illustrator.
- Proven ability to read and write code for documentation purposes.
- Experience with silicon photonics, fiber optics, or laser products is a plus.
