Job Summary:
Bring your mental health expertise to Allina Health. You will be a vital member of our mental health coordinator team. Your focus will be on meeting the patients' needs and ensuring a smooth healthcare experience. Your dedication and teamwork contribute to maintaining the highest quality of care at Allina Health.
Key Position Details:
  • 0.9 FTE (72 hours per two-week pay period)
  • 12-hour day/night shifts
  • Every 3rd weekend rotation

Job Description:
Provide direct physical care, emotional support and educational resources to Mental Health patients under the supervision of the RN. Participate in all aspects of patient's care to individual patients, providing unity structure, promoting safety and creating/monitoring a therapeutic milieu. Provide therapeutic interventions including responding to crisis situation and programing. Understand Mental Health issues as they affect the individual and family.
Principle Responsibilities
  • Safety activities.
    • Initial and ongoing data collection and observation documentation.
    • Responds and documents changes in patient's health status and communicates changes to the RN.
    • Reports observations of patient's potential for violence towards self or others.
    • Alerts nurse to extra pyramidal side effect.
    • Demonstrates ability to use the nurse call and door release systems.
    • Demonstrates use of correct Code Green techniques to provide safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • Patient care activities.
    • Assists with activities of daily living.
    • Recognizes escalating behaviors and attempt to redirect/refocus.
    • Participates in development of treatment plans and interventions.
    • Assists with collecting assessment data through interviews,1:1 and group interactions/observation.
    • Observes physical, psychological and safety status of patient and unit on an ongoing basis.
    • Assists patient in establishing therapeutic goals.
    • Facilitates therapeutic interventions through structured activities, education or counseling per unit milieu/schedule.
    • Develops, implements and evaluates plan of care based on individual/family assessment.
    • Monitors vital signs and reports observations.
    • Assists with admissions and discharges.
    • Performs collection of specimens from patients as delegated
    • May perform blood glucose monitoring.
    • Reports abnormal findings to RN.
    • May facilitate/co-facilitate groups and/or activities as delegated.
    • Verbalizes understanding of role for patients' with legal holds/commitments and issuing patient rights.
  • Role model/Team work activities.
    • Actively participates in staff meetings and task groups.
    • Maintains professional appearance.
    • Demonstrates ability to verbally deescalate a patient and set appropriate limits.
    • Verbalizes knowledge of mental health diagnosis including mood disorders, personalist disorders, thought disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse.
    • Demonstrates appropriate application of limb restraints.
    • Demonstrates ability to verbally de-escalate a patient and set appropriate limits with a team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social/psychological or related field

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 to 5 years experience in mental health/substance abuse patient care

Licenses/Certifications
  • Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below
    • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
    • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
    • Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
  • Code Green within 60 Days required

Physical Demands
  • Medium Work*:
  • Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range
Pay Range: $26.01 to $35.47 per hour
The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
