The Opportunity

Join the School of Translational Medicine (STM) at Monash University as a Senior Technical Officer and play a pivotal role in supporting researchers, staff and students across our laboratories and research facilities.

As a key member of the Research Operations Team, you'll bring your technical expertise, operational insight and commitment to safety to a diverse role spanning laboratory operations, research compliance, facilities, equipment, ethics and OHS. You'll be a trusted subject matter expert, providing specialist advice and helping ensure our research environments are safe, compliant, efficient and fit for purpose.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Overseeing high-quality technical and laboratory support services across the School, ensuring facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with University policies and regulatory requirements

  • Providing expert advice and training on laboratory operations, safety, security, and technical standards, while maintaining oversight of research ethics, compliance frameworks, specialized equipment, and physical resources

  • Partnering with the Senior Operations and Infrastructure Manager to contribute to operational planning, budget and equipment management, OHS initiatives, laboratory inspections, and continuous improvement activities

  • Building strong collaborative relationships with researchers, professional staff, University service areas, and external stakeholders to support research excellence and daily facility operations

What You'll Bring

  • A degree in a relevant discipline and demonstrated experience managing technical services, laboratories, or research facilities, with a strong focus on operational excellence, safety, and continuous improvement

  • Extensive knowledge of laboratory safety, OHS&E legislation, Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) laboratories, controlled substances, and regulatory compliance

  • Highly developed organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the proven ability to develop effective procedures and manage competing priorities

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to build productive, collaborative relationships across diverse groups

  • Experience working within a translational research or hospital-based precinct, with an understanding of the governance requirements specific to Alfred Health or equivalent institutions
