Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Senior Software Verification Engineer develops the next generation medical technologies that alleviate pain, restore health and extend life for millions of patients across the world. CRM Software is developed with state of the art, industry standard technologies and used by Clinicians and Patients worldwide. As a Senior Software Verification Engineer in the CRM Software Organization, you will be developing and testing software applications which interface with Medtronic implantable cardiac devices and remote management of patients. We are looking for highly motivated and self-starting strong software engineers looking forward to innovating in a fun and fast paced environment with a passion to improve people's quality of life. The individual will operate in all phases and contribute to all activities of the software development process.
This position will provide leadership and management of the software products delivery and operations for all business units within Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) to ensure continued high quality of our products, solutions, and services.
This role is expected to be a leader in the Software Operations function, and drive Software and System test automation across CRM Research and Development. This role will work across organizational boundaries to develop a comprehensive verification strategy for developing software and system solutions using modern approaches such as automation, machine learning, etc., that deliver efficient and effective verification. This role requires someone with a passion for excellence, a change leader, and a desire to continuously improve the way we develop products.

This position is in Mounds View, MN. within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) operating unit. At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. In-person exchanges are invaluable to our work. We are working on-site 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Day in the Life:

In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior Software Verification Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Design and execute iOS, Android, and embedded tests using automated test tools, as well as manual test development processes, for the verification of software requirements.
  • Contributes towards building system level test automation capability.
  • Design and implement DevOps (continuous integration) automation leveraging appropriate tools.
  • Define and implement metrics (or performance dashboards) to drive higher quality and schedule predictability across project teams.
  • Prepare, review, submit, and maintain project/product documentation including traceability from software requirements to Verification test design and implementation.
  • Assist the Verification Lead in workload planning and time estimation.
  • Partner with R&D functions to develop comprehensive verification strategy to improve product quality and speed of development.
  • Drive continuous improvement mindset for the organization (including lean principles to improve productivity) to achieve quality, speed, and innovation.
  • Support test infrastructure set up and validation.
  • Mentor, coach and develop junior software engineers to increase their effectiveness as well as employee engagement by creating a collaborative, learning environment.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong knowledge of Software verification testing and test practices
  • Strong knowledge of embedded software/firmware testing and development
  • Experience testing software using Bluetooth Low Energy
  • Experience testing software connecting to cellular networks and Wi-Fi.
  • Experience with programming languages in Python
  • Experience using/testing XML, Restful API and JSON
  • Experience with Requirement Analysis & Requirement based testing

Must Have - Minimum Requirements

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, PLEASE BE SURE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline and a minimum of 4 years of experience with Software Verification and /or Test Systems Development OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years technical experience

Nice to Have

  • Strong experience testing embedded firmware/software applications running on RTOS or Linux/Android operating system
  • Experience testing software connecting to cellular networks and Wi-Fi.
  • Experience testing software using Bluetooth Low Energy
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with mobile application development and testing on IOS and Android platforms
  • Experience testing networking software - TCP/IP communication
  • Experience with SSL Certificate Management
  • Experience with XML/JSON and Restful APIs
  • Experience with Selenium/Appium and Automation testing frameworks
  • Experience in design control for regulated products and knowledge of applicable regulations and standards used in regulated industries, such as ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, and 21 CFR 820).
  • Experience with Agile Development.
  • Experience with Azdo and or Github
  • Strong collaboration and influence skills to succeed in a high matrix environment.
  • Proven ability to operate in a matrix organization and work effectively with senior leadership, customers, and across geographic, cultural and organization boundaries.
