Sr. Trust Settlement Officer
Fiduciary Trust International is hiring a Senior Trust Settlement Officer to join the New York office. The Senior Trust Settlement Officer administers and executes the full lifecycle of trust settlements following triggering events such as death, resignation, removal of trustee, or age-based terminations. The role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant distribution of trust assets in accordance with governing documents, fiduciary standards, and applicable laws, while coordinating closely with clients, internal partners and external stakeholders. The Senior officer will also supervise more junior team members.
Core Responsibilities
  • Initiate and lead settlement process of irrevocable trusts upon triggering events
  • Coordinate strategy meetings with relationship teams
  • Review and analyze trust agreements and related documents, account files, and imaging systems for all relevant provisions and historical context
  • Determine appropriate method of settlement and identify and minimize risk consistent with policies
  • Communicate directly with beneficiaries and interested parties concerning the settlement process and expectations
  • Coordinate settlement process with internal and external counsel
  • Identify, value and liquidate trust assets
  • Coordinate with Tax team on federal and state income, estate, and fiduciary tax matters
  • Ensure compliance with jurisdictional requirements, internal policies, and fiduciary standards
  • Facilitate distributions and post-settlement activities
  • Prepare and archive files in accordance with records management policies

Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in trust administration or fiduciary services with direct client interactions
  • Strong knowledge of trust and estate law, fiduciary accounting, and tax considerations
  • JD, CTFA or similar designation preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage complex, multi-step processes across multiple accounts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficient in trust accounting systems
