Job description

Job Summary: The Senior Retail Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing and analyzing financial transactions related to retail operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue reconciliation. This role ensures the accuracy of financial records, supports month-end close processes, and provides insights into retail performance. The position does not include supervisory responsibilities but requires strong collaboration across departments.

Retail Accounting Operations

  • Serve as Business Partner to assigned retail locations providing financial insights to support retail decision-making and process improvements.
  • Process and reconcile retail-related accounts payable and receivable transactions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely invoicing, payment application, and vendor/customer account maintenance.
  • Monitor and report on retail cash flow, payment cycles, and outstanding balances.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist in month-end close activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare detailed reports on retail performance, including sales trends, margin analysis, and inventory turnover.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes for retail operations.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations (GAAP, tax laws, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Calculate and report applicable sales tax based on retail transactions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with procurement, sales, and operations teams to resolve discrepancies and improve financial accuracy.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively without direct supervisory responsibilities.
