LCC's Science Department is seeking to expand its pool of part-time faculty with a passion for teaching and content expertise in Cell Biology and/or Anatomy & Physiology. The initial focus of teaching responsibilities will be in BI 112, Cell Biology for Health Occupations, which is the prerequisite to the 3-course Human Anatomy and Physiology series (BI 231, 232, and 233).
- This is an application pool posting for 2025-2026, starting Fall 2025. The assigned location for this position is at the Lane Community College main campus located in Eugene, Oregon.
- Classes may include 100-level Cell Biology and 200-level Anatomy & Physiology, depending on department needs.
- Beyond the required education and experience, instructors must have a passion for what they teach, and use teaching styles that support student success. Instructors are responsible for following Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning.

Position Purpose:
To provide high-quality instruction that meets established learning aims and outcomes for students in 100-level Cell Biology and/or 200-level Anatomy & Physiology courses.
Faculty are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality learning experience for all Lane Community College students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of the teacher of record and facilitator of learning
Essential Functions:
Instruction
- Effectively teach Cell Biology and/or Anatomy & Physiology courses as assigned
- Engage in collaborative curriculum development and revisions with colleagues
Support student learning through activities that include:
- Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions
- Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching
- Collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process
- Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations
- Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, the college, and community, as specified in the College Operations Policies and Procedures
- Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory
- Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students

- Provide high-quality classroom instruction
- Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials
- Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at the course and program level

- Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
- Confer with students on course materials

Online Teaching and Student Support
- Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).
- Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success
- Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
- Provide timely response to student inquiries
- Ensure that all materials created comply with College Policies and Procedures for technology and accessibility, and applicable accessibility laws
- Use effective strategies for teaching online.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:
Work safely in classroom and laboratory settings; may be exposed to hazardous conditions. This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that include office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform computer work in the form of word processing, data entry, spreadsheet work, and web-based research for more than six (6) hours a day. Work involves concentrated mental and visual attention for sustained periods of time. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of teaching Cell Biology and/or Anatomy & Physiology to general lower-division college populations
- Knowledge generally and specifically with common student learning difficulties, current advances in teaching methods, and appropriate uses of technology in teaching

- Ability to manage a classroom and teach using a learning management system (e.g., Moodle) and online resources; effective classroom presentation and speaking skills
