Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
The MQ-1C Engineering team is seeking a systems engineering expert and technical leader to join the Army Systems Engineering team, with a strong focus on architecture design, aviation requirements management, hardware and software architecture, and digital engineering tools such as Jama, Jira, and Cameo. This position will play a pivotal role in driving systems engineering activities, exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for UAS hardware and software requirements management. Prior experience with unmanned aerial systems (UAS) is a plus. Functioning in a leadership role, this position supports the Systems Engineering, Integration, and Cyber (SEIC) leadership team in planning and overseeing the successful resolution and implementation of engineering challenges, while providing direction and guidance to professional and support staff.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Represents the assigned systems or projects(s)/program(s) as a prime technical expert.
  • Serve as a systems engineering expert and technical leader for Army aviation programs, focusing on UAS requirements management and architecture design.
  • Lead and oversee the development, integration, and verification of hardware and software architectures for unmanned aerial systems (UAS), ensuring compliance with aviation standards and requirements.
  • Utilize digital engineering tools such as Jama, Jira, and Cameo to manage requirements, track progress, and support system development across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, customers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration of UAS systems and adherence to open architecture standards such as FACE, SOSA, HOST, and VICTORY.
  • Direct and allocate technical resources to support UAS system design, testing, and validation, ensuring alignment with Army aviation objectives and timelines.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including requirements traceability matrices, system architecture diagrams, and test plans, to support UAS program development and compliance.
  • Act as a technical advisor and consultant, providing expert guidance on aviation requirements management, system architecture development, and integration strategies for UAS platforms.
  • Develops new and/or expands existing business opportunities.
  • Ensures compliance, reporting, and safety standards are maintained.
  • Participates in the planning, selection, retention, and development of the professional staff.
  • Publishes and present technical papers and abstracts and participate in internal and external technical program reviews.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, thirteen or more years of experience with a masters degree, or ten or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Prior unmanned vehicles operation and/or development experience preferred.
  • Prior open architecture and knowledge of Army open architecture standards (IE: FACE, SOSA, HOST, VICTORY, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong technical profiency in software and networking integration preferred.
  • Experience with integrating innovative user experience (UX) solutions to robotics or unmanned vehicles a plus.
  • Prior technical leadership experience with leading teams of cross-functional engineering staff across a mix of internal and external organizations preferred.
  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project and/or program leadership including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones. Must posses the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex technical problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment. Able to work extended hours as required.
  • A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, invited to present one or more original works to a national or international engineering symposium, and invited to Chair engineering review panels as a technical expert are desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required
