What is a Senior MES Engineer?

A Senior MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining MES solutions to optimize manufacturing processes. They work closely with production, IT, and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration between MES systems and enterprise applications like ERP and SCADA. Their role includes troubleshooting system issues, improving workflows, and ensuring data accuracy for real-time decision-making. Additionally, they may mentor junior engineers and lead system upgrades or implementations to enhance production efficiency and compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior MES Engineer?

To thrive as a Senior MES Engineer, you need deep knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems, process automation, and systems integration, typically supported by an engineering degree and relevant industry experience. Familiarity with MES platforms (such as Siemens Opcenter, Rockwell FactoryTalk, or GE Proficy), industrial protocols, and certifications like PMP or Six Sigma can be highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help you lead complex deployments and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. These abilities ensure that critical manufacturing processes are optimized, compliant, and efficiently supported in dynamic production environments.

What are some typical challenges faced by Senior MES Engineers in their daily work?

Senior MES Engineers often face challenges such as integrating new MES solutions with legacy systems, managing diverse stakeholder expectations, and ensuring minimal disruption during system upgrades or rollouts. Balancing multiple projects across different production lines while maintaining system reliability and compliance can also be demanding. This role frequently requires creative problem-solving to troubleshoot real-time issues and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues. Overcoming these challenges is key to driving continuous improvement and efficiency within modern manufacturing environments.

What does a Senior MES Engineer do?

A Senior MES Engineer designs, develops, and maintains Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to optimize production processes. They analyze manufacturing workflows, implement system integrations, and troubleshoot issues, often using tools like SQL, PLCs, and automation software. This role requires strong technical skills, industry knowledge, and experience with system deployment and support in manufacturing environments.

Job description

Description:

Warrant Technologies is seeking curious, driven early-career engineers and computer scientists to join our Professional Services team supporting Siemens Digital Industries Software. As an Implementation Consultant, you become the bridge between cutting-edge engineering tools and the real-world missions they enable—helping customers design, build, and sustain the systems that matter.

You will learn how modern digital engineering works from the inside out: PLM, digital twins, model-based engineering, enterprise data flows, and the software that powers advanced manufacturing. You’ll work side-by-side with senior engineers, architects, and industry experts while gaining hands-on experience configuring and deploying Teamcenter PLM solutions across high-impact programs.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to build deep technical capability, grow into a trusted advisor, and contribute to real engineering transformation across defense, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

· Translate customer engineering and manufacturing needs into practical PLM solutions that improve how products are designed, built, tested, and sustained.

· Support solution architecture activities—helping design how Teamcenter and related tools integrate into customer workflows.

· Analyze customer goals, processes, and data flows to identify opportunities for efficiency, automation, and improved decision-making.

· Contribute to requirements development, process design, and configuration for moderately complex PLM implementations.

· Assist project managers with scope, schedule, cost, and quality tracking to ensure successful delivery.

· Document system specifications, workflows, and user needs through direct interaction with engineers, managers, and stakeholders.

· Participate in planning, estimating, and scheduling project tasks as part of a collaborative delivery team.

· Develop and execute functional and integration test plans to validate system performance.

Support technical recommendations and contribute to the overall system design of Teamcenter PLM deployments

Requirements:

· BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.

· Understanding of engineering design, product development, or manufacturing processes.

· Exposure to enterprise systems (PLM, ERP, MES) through coursework, internships, or projects.

· Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

· Self-starter mindset with the ability to learn quickly and take initiative.

· U.S. citizenship (required for future clearance eligibility).

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with Teamcenter or other PLM tools through internships, labs, or academic projects.

· Familiarity with scripting, data structures, or basic software development concepts.
