Senior IT Project Manager – VDOT

Location: Mechanicsville, VA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – Onsite up to 3 days/week
Candidate Requirement: Local candidates only
Duration: Contract

Job Summary

VDOT is seeking a Senior IT Project Manager to lead complex technology projects from initiation through completion. The ideal candidate will work with senior leadership, business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery and business value.

Responsibilities
  • Lead complex IT projects through the complete project lifecycle.

  • Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, milestones, and deliverables.

  • Manage project risks, issues, dependencies, resources, and scope.

  • Coordinate with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and leadership.

  • Provide project status updates, reporting, and executive-level communication.

  • Apply Agile, Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, and Waterfall methodologies.

  • Manage project governance, documentation, change management, and delivery.

  • Ensure projects meet quality, schedule, budget, and business objectives.

  • Lead project teams and coordinate resources across multiple functions.

Mandatory Qualifications
  • Active PMI PMP Certification.

  • Strong experience in IT Project Management and full project lifecycle management.

  • Demonstrated project risk management experience.

  • Experience as Project Manager of Record (PM of Record).

  • Must have successfully completed either:

    • Commonwealth of Virginia Category 1 or Category 2 project valued at $5M+, OR

    • Non-Commonwealth project valued at $10M+.

  • Hands-on experience with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and Waterfall.

  • Must be a local candidate able to work onsite in Mechanicsville, VA up to 3 days/week.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Project Management Certification.

  • Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia/VITA project management practices.

  • Commonwealth risk management experience.

  • Experience managing Virginia Category 1/Category 2 projects.

  • Experience with the SAFe framework.
