Job description

Job Summary:
Lastwall is a cybersecurity company specializing in secure, identity-centric solutions for critical sectors. They are seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design and operate secure infrastructure for their identity platform, focusing on cloud architecture, automation, and compliance-driven operations.
Responsibilities:
• Own complex infrastructure initiatives from design through implementation, documentation, deployment, and operational handoff. Help improve the architecture and reliability of Lastwall’s FedRAMP-aligned infrastructure across AWS GovCloud and related environments.
• Design and improve secure, scalable, distributed cloud systems that support Lastwall’s identity platform. Contribute to platform engineering efforts that make infrastructure easier to operate, easier to observe, and easier for product engineering teams to build against.
• Develop, maintain, and improve infrastructure as code using tools such as AWS CDK and Terraform. Deepen Lastwall’s use of automation to make provisioning, configuration, deployment, compliance support, and operational workflows repeatable, auditable, and secure.
• Lead improvements to monitoring, logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting across distributed systems. Use tools and practices such as CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and related observability technologies to improve service visibility, reduce operational risk, and strengthen production readiness.
• Apply secure infrastructure practices across networking, access control, secrets management, containerized workloads, system hardening, operational automation, and production change management. Support infrastructure practices aligned with FedRAMP, NIST 800-series controls, GovCloud deployments, and FIPS 140-2 expectations.
• Improve deployment tooling and CI/CD pipelines that support secure, reliable software delivery. Partner with product engineering teams to improve test, deployment, and release workflows while maintaining strong security and compliance expectations.
• Play a senior role in incident response, troubleshooting, and operational remediation. Help lead Learning From Incidents practices so that reliability, security, and operational maturity improve over time.
• Provide technical guidance to infrastructure and product engineering peers. Help set standards for architecture, automation, observability, documentation, security, and operational excellence without carrying formal people-management responsibility.
• Evaluate new tools, architectural patterns, and infrastructure approaches. Anticipate technical roadblocks, assess tradeoffs, and recommend practical solutions that balance security, reliability, compliance, delivery speed, and customer needs.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 7+ years of industry experience in cloud-native infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or systems engineering, ideally in SaaS, cybersecurity, identity, government technology, or other complex software environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• U.S. citizenship or dual U.S./Canadian citizenship, due to the nature of the environments and customers supported by this role.
• Strong experience designing, building, and operating secure, scalable, distributed cloud systems in production.
• Deep experience with infrastructure as code, ideally including AWS CDK and Terraform.
• Working knowledge of EC2, Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized workloads.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, cloud networking, segmentation, access control, and secure system design.
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, including tools such as GitLab, CodeCommit, or CodeDeploy.
• Strong experience with observability, monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting, including tools such as CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, or Prometheus.
• Experience with relational databases and managed database services, including PostgreSQL, RDS, or Aurora.
• Strong incident response and troubleshooting experience, ideally in high-reliability, critical, or life-and-safety-sensitive environments.
• Excellent coding and scripting skills, with familiarity or ability to quickly ramp in tools and languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Bash, GraphQL, or Rust.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives independently, influence peers, and bring structure to ambiguous infrastructure problems.
• Comfort in a small but growing company, where ownership, adaptability, and practical execution matter.
Preferred:
• Strong AWS experience, ideally including AWS GovCloud or similarly regulated cloud environments.
• Experience with FedRAMP, NIST 800-series controls, GovCloud deployments, or FIPS 140-2 compliance.
• Experience with Amazon OpenSearch.
• Experience developing operational tooling in Node.js, TypeScript, or Rust.
• Experience supporting PostgreSQL/RDS/Aurora in production environments.
• Experience with GraphQL in operational or product-supporting contexts.
• Experience with security scanning, infrastructure security automation, vulnerability management, or compliance evidence collection.
• Experience improving architecture, observability, and operability in distributed systems.
• Experience partnering with product engineering teams to improve test, deployment, and release workflows.
• Familiarity with authentication, identity, PKI, SAML, OAuth, OIDC, or Zero Trust architectures.
• Experience mentoring engineers, setting technical standards, or helping mature an infrastructure, DevOps, platform, or SRE function.
Company:
Lastwall is building new internet security systems, broadly based on new ways of authenticating users and strongly enforcing identity. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in Mountain View, USA, with a team of 11-50 employees. The company is currently Early Stage.
