Job Description
1. Lead multiple related fuel accounting teams or a group of senior-level professionals, ensuring consistent performance, accuracy, and compliance.
2. Set clear goals, define expectations, and drive accountability across teams.
3. Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and development plans for managers and individual contributors.
4. Drive departmental objectives through advanced communication, coaching, and cross-functional alignment.
5. Apply deep knowledge of accounting principles, fuel operations, and company processes to guide decision-making and improve financial accuracy.
6. Execute departmental plans, projects, and initiatives that support fuel accounting strategy, operational efficiency, and service delivery.
7. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and quality standards.
8. Apply advanced critical thinking to resolve complex, ambiguous, or unusual business challenges.
9. Assess the broader impact of decisions across the functional area and adjust strategies accordingly.
10. Ensure accurate and timely accounting for fuel purchases, inventory, taxes, fees, and related financial transactions.
11. Serve as the escalation point for high-impact or sensitive accounting matters.
12. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
13. Use sound judgment to identify and resolve moderate to complex technical and operational issues within fuel accounting.
14. Direct the resolution of complex accounting discrepancies, system issues, or operational challenges by applying advanced critical-thinking skills and leveraging internal and external resources.
15. Support the rollout of new products, services, or technologies that impact fuel accounting processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred
  • 8+ years of accounting experience, with a strong focus on fuel, energy, transportation, or commodity accounting
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls required
  • Experience with ERP systems and fuel management systems
  • Knowledge of federal and state fuel tax reporting
  • Continuous improvement mindset and process optimization experience
  • Proven experience in resolving complex issues
