Job description

As a Senior Engineering Manager – Data Store Platforms, you will lead the Data Store team, responsible for building and enabling scalable, secure, and reliable data platform services across the enterprise. You will guide two squads—Platform Services and Service Enablement—to deliver self-service data capabilities that application teams can adopt and operate confidently. This role combines technical strategy, people leadership, and operational excellence to accelerate delivery and strengthen production reliability. You’ll help shape how teams consume data infrastructure through automation, clear ownership, and a customer-first mindset.
In this role, you'll primarily work virtually from home or another non‑Best Buy location. However, you must live within a drivable distance to our corporate campus in Richfield, Minnesota. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team, and the recruiter or hiring manager will provide additional details during the hiring process.
What you’ll do
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers delivering cloud-based data platform services and enablement capabilities.
  • Deliver scalable, secure, and self-service data services that support internal engineering teams.
  • Guide technical design, architecture patterns, and engineering standards for platform services.
  • Improve developer experience by simplifying service adoption and reducing friction.
  • Partner with operations teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align platform capabilities with engineering needs
  • Coach and develop engineers through feedback, career growth, and performance management.

Basic qualifications
  • 7 years of software or platform engineering experience, including 2 years leading an engineering team
  • 5 years of experience building and operating AWS-based data platforms, including Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, Amazon ElastiCache, or Amazon DocumentDB
  • 3+ years of experience guiding technical design, architecture, or engineering standards for distributed systems or data platforms
  • 2 years of leadership experience, including coaching engineers and delivering team outcomes
  • Experience delivering shared platform or infrastructure services used by internal engineering teams

Preferred qualifications
  • 5 years of experience building self-service platforms with automation and standardized service offerings
  • 3 years of experience improving developer experience through onboarding, documentation, or training
  • 3 years of experience supporting production systems, including reliability or incident response practices
  • 3 years of experience using metrics to improve platform performance, adoption, or efficiency
  • Experience working with AWS NoSQL and distributed database technologies such as Amazon DynamoDB or Amazon Keyspaces
