Job description

SCHEMMER is seeking a full-time Senior Transportation Engineer to join our growing transportation team. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER
As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader and project manager within our transportation engineering department. You will lead the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects primarily for DOT, municipal, and county clients while ensuring quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
In this role, you will oversee multidisciplinary project teams, provide technical direction, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients and stakeholders. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and contributing to strategic growth initiatives within the transportation market.
Your expertise in roadway design, transportation planning, permitting, and agency coordination will be instrumental in successfully delivering projects from concept through construction. As a senior member of the team, you will mentor and develop junior engineers, promote best practices, and help strengthen SCHEMMER's reputation as a trusted engineering partner.
Successful candidates will bring a strong understanding of transportation project delivery, regulatory requirements, public agency coordination, and industry trends, along with a passion for leadership, collaboration, and client service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 7+ years of transportation engineering experience in a design lead role
  • Demonstrated success managing transportation and roadway projects for DOT, city, and county clients
  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring engineering staff
  • Strong client relationship skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Proven ability to manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality
