Job description

General Purpose of Job

The Director, Content Strategy & Marketing will sit onsite at our Chicago office and is responsible for defining and leading a unified, cross-channel content strategy that drives brand awareness, strengthens market positioning, and supports revenue growth across Quad's portfolio of marketing solutions and agencies

This role will transform how Quad brings its story to market, aligning content across owned and operated channels, including digital, social, events, and thought leadership to ensure consistent, compelling narratives that offer value, sharpen market positioning, and drives measurable business impact.

Reporting to the VP, Brand Marketing, this role will lead the evolution of content from a set of channel-specific activities into an integrated, performance-driven marketing discipline. This role will oversee editorial and partner closely with marketing, sales, and product teams to ensure content meaningfully contributes to audience engagement, pipeline development, and client growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a comprehensive enterprise content strategy that aligns with Quad's business priorities, brand and product positioning, and growth objectives.

  • Unify content across channels (site, social, events, thought leadership), ensuring consistency in messaging, storytelling, and audience experience.

  • Establish and operationalize clear content narrative frameworks that strengthen Quad's positioning and clearly articulate the value of its products and services.

  • Partner with marketing, sales, and product leadership to ensure content supports awareness, consideration, and conversion goals, with clear alignment to go-to-market strategies.

  • Lead the development of integrated campaigns and content programs that connect brand storytelling with demand generation efforts.

  • Oversee and evolve the editorial function, setting strategic direction, elevating content quality, and ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities.

  • Define and implement a content performance framework, including KPIs, measurement strategies, and optimization processes to improve effectiveness across channels.

  • Identify and address gaps in current content and channel strategies, driving greater cohesion, efficiency, and impact across the marketing ecosystem.

  • Champion audience-first thinking, ensuring content is relevant, differentiated, and tailored to key customer segments.

  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships to enable content to scale effectively across the organization.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to leverage AI and emerging technologies to enhance content strategy, streamline production workflows, and improve personalization, scalability, and performance across channels.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing or related field a plus.  Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on an equivalent basis.

Experience:

  • 12+ years of experience in content strategy, marketing, or related disciplines; B2B experience is required

  • Experience leading cross-channel content and marketing strategies within complex, matrixed organizations

  • Proven success in transforming content into a strategic business driver, not just a support function

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong ability to translate business strategy into clear, compelling narratives and content frameworks

  • Experience aligning content with full-funnel marketing objectives (awareness through conversion)

  • Deep understanding of digital, social, and integrated marketing channels

  • Demonstrated success leading and scaling high-performing content or editorial teams

  • Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management skills

  • Analytical mindset with experience using data to inform content strategy and optimization

  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills

  • Ability to operate at both strategic and executional levels

  • Knowledge of latest SEO trends and best practices

  • Familiarity with AI-driven content tools and marketing technologies, with the ability to evaluate and apply them to improve content effectiveness, efficiency, and scale.

  • Understanding of how AI can support content generation, audience targeting, personalization, and performance optimization within a modern marketing ecosystem.

Additional Requirement: This role includes occasional travel, typically a couple of times per quarter, based on business needs.

Employees can be expected to be paid an annualized salary range of $190,000 - $220,000, based on variations in knowledge, skills, experience and market conditions.
