Job description

Citi's Commercial Banking division is seeking a Senior Vice President, Commercial Credit Underwriting to lead end-to-end credit underwriting and portfolio management within the Commercial Lending Management (CLM) team, focused on the Digital, Tech & Communications industry vertical and supporting mid-to-large commercial clients with annual revenues between $100 million and $3 billion. In this role, you will serve as a senior credit authority, partnering directly with Relationship Managers and Independent Risk to structure and deliver sophisticated lending solutions, from working capital facilities and term loans to M&A financing, trade finance, and interest rate derivatives. • Lead pre-screening of lending opportunities with Relationship Management teams, assess credit appetite across the Digital, Tech & Communications sector, identify structural risks, and provide financing recommendations that effectively balance risk with business objectives.
  • Assess the financial condition and creditworthiness of borrowers using deep sector knowledge of Digital, Tech & Communications industry drivers and key performance indicators, delivering well-supported credit analysis to approve and manage a material portfolio of credit risk.
  • Monitor portfolio compliance on a monthly and quarterly basis, tracking covenant adherence, identifying early warning signals within the sector, and escalating emerging credit concerns to relevant stakeholders with clearly recommended courses of action.
  • Direct the loan documentation process for new transactions and modifications, coordinating with internal partners and external legal counsel to ensure all credit approval conditions are accurately reflected in closing documentation.
  • Contribute sector-level credit insights and Digital, Tech & Communications portfolio analysis to internal and external stakeholders, including participation in industry-level portfolio reviews and high-visibility credit forums.
  • Mentor and develop junior credit professionals, building technical underwriting capability and sector knowledge across the broader Commercial Banking team.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 10 or more years of credit underwriting, portfolio management, or risk management experience gained within a large multinational financial institution.
  • Deep expertise in commercial and cross-border lending, with the ability to structure, assess, and approve credit across a broad range of lending products including working capital facilities, term loans, and M&A financing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Digital, Tech & Communications industry, including the unique financial profiles, sector-specific performance indicators, and credit dynamics that characterize companies in this space.
  • Applied knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement analysis as used in commercial credit underwriting and borrower assessment.
  • Ability to form a clear, well-reasoned credit view and communicate it effectively in writing, verbally, and in formal presentations to senior stakeholders and credit committees.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound, timely credit decisions under pressure, calibrate risk appropriately, and defend a credit position with confidence.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA, or professional certifications relevant to credit, risk, or financial analysis.
  • Track record of advising on or leading strategic credit initiatives at a US or global level within a large financial institution.
  • Experience managing a technology or communications sector lending portfolio, with familiarity in sub-segments such as software, digital media, semiconductors, or telecommunications.
What We Offer

This role offers the ownership and visibility that senior credit leaders seek, alongside a structure designed to support long-term performance and professional development.

  • A senior, high-influence role with direct credit approval authority and accountability for a material commercial lending portfolio focused on the Digital, Tech & Communications sector.
  • Hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, providing flexibility alongside meaningful in-person collaboration.
  • Exposure to complex credit structures, cross-border transactions, and a wide range of financial products within a globally connected banking platform.
  • Opportunities to lead or contribute to strategic initiatives that shape the future of credit formation within Citi's Commercial Banking business.
  • A performance-driven environment that rewards deep sector expertise, sound credit judgment, and the ability to deliver at a senior level.
  • Access to learning and development programs that build both technical credit skills and broader leadership capability.
