POSITION TITLE: Director of Christian Education

POSITION STATUS: Salaried, Calendar-Year, Full-Time

SUPERVISED BY: Associate Pastor

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: The Senior Pastor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Christian Education will work with others to develop a good spirit within all Christian educational programming. The Director will seek to inspire and motivate the membership of the congregation in developing and using the resources provided by God to carry out His will as it pertain to Christian educational programming. The Director will serve as a representative of the life and mission of the Church within the local community. The Director will carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Pastor and/or the Senior Pastor.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

This is a generalized job description. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary depending upon the needs of the Church.

General Responsibilities

• Seek the guidance and input of the Associate Pastor and the Christian Education Team and sub-committees in the development and implementation of the children’s and adult education programs.
• Provide on-site supervision of the Christian education programs by being consistently in attendance on Sunday mornings (no more than six absences in the Church calendar year) and on Wednesday evenings (no more than three absences in the school calendar year).
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers responsible for delivering the ministry programs.
• Be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluating of the budget for curriculum, materials and other resources needed to carry out the ministry programs.
• Maintain a database of contact information for children, birth through age 12, in coordination with other staff.
• Develop and maintain a system of care and regular contact with children and adults.
• Attend all appropriate meetings as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Children’s Ministries:

• Plan, implement, lead, supervise and evaluate the children’s ministries (birth through sixth grade) consistent with the First St. Paul’s mission, vision, commitments, culture, and tradition.
  • Such programming will include, but may not be limited to:Sunday School, children’s Ichthus programming, 3rd Grade Bible Project, children’s Advent service, Seder Meal, 5th grade First Communion, Easter events, family events, Vacation Bible School, and Nursery.

Adult Ministries:

• Plan, implement, lead, supervise and evaluate the adult (post-high school) ministries consistent with the First St. Paul’s mission, vision, commitments, culture, and tradition.
• Such programming will include, but may not be limited to; Sunday education hour, adult Ichthus programming, Men/Women retreats, small group ministries and mission trips.

DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY

As determined by the Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor, the Director will have specified authority to make day-to-day decisions and to take day-to-day action regarding the operations of the nursery, children’s and adult ministry programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education and Training: A Bachelor’s Degree and/or Christian Ministry experience with a willingness to pursue continued education in Christian Leadership.
• Licenses and/or Certification Required: CPR
• Prior Related Experience Desired: Three years of prior Christian Ministry experience.
• Demonstrated Competencies:
  • A growing knowledge of the teachings of the LCMC and a passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ
  • A solid background in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programming.
  • A solid background in teaching and learning.
  • Ability to train and supervise others.
  • Solid understanding of how to deliver the Gospel through worship and music
  • Emerging leadership and administrative skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with staff, the congregation, the local community, and the larger church.
