JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Building Engineer to oversee and optimize the maintenance, repair, and operation of all building systems within our facilities. The Senior Building Engineer will ensure our buildings operate efficiently, meet all regulatory standards, and provide a safe and comfortable environment for occupants. This role involves leading a team of maintenance technicians, coordinating with vendors, implementing preventative maintenance programs, and ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and regulations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
System Oversight & Management:
  • Manage and maintain all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, and Building Automation Systems (BAS), to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with building systems, coordinating with external contractors when necessary.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and areas for improvement.
Team Leadership & Development:
  • Supervise, train, and schedule a team of maintenance technicians and engineers, assigning tasks and ensuring the highest quality of work.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Preventative Maintenance:
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime, extend equipment lifespan, and ensure operational reliability.
  • Track and report on maintenance activities, system performance, and incidents.
Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensure that all facilities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including fire safety standards, OSHA requirements, and environmental guidelines.
  • Implement and enforce quality control procedures and construction safety guidelines to maintain high standards.
Vendor & Contractor Coordination:
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, installations, and inspections.
  • Administer and oversee contracts, ensuring work is completed to specifications and within budget.
Budget & Reporting:
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of the maintenance budget, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring cost efficiency.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on facility performance, maintenance activities, and capital improvement recommendations to facilities management or leadership
Emergency Response:
  • Respond promptly to emergencies (e.g., power outages, floods, equipment failures) and coordinate rapid resolution to minimize disruptions - before, during, or after hours.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in building engineering or facilities maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, BAS) and the ability to interpret blueprints and control systems.
  • Proficiency in industry-related software and MS Office Suite.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, especially under pressure.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to explain technical aspects to both technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety guidelines, OSHA, building codes, regulations, and provisions.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate projects, managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • A valid driver's License may be required, depending on site responsibilities.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • MEP, HVAC, BOC, Project management certification (e.g., PMP).
  • Knowledge of modern methods and techniques of installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with energy management systems.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to conduct regular site inspections, which may involve walking, standing, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
