Job description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Grader Operator operates a self-propelled grader to spread and level dirt, gravel, and stone, to grade specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate a motor grader to move soil, gravel, or other materials to create smooth surfaces on roads or other construction sites.
  • Read and understand blueprints and grade stakes to determine the desired grade.
  • Use the grader's blade and other attachments to level and compact surfaces.
  • Spread and finish materials such as asphalt, concrete, and gravel.
  • Perform routine maintenance on the grader, such as greasing and oiling.
  • Report any equipment problems to the supervisor.
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations.
  • Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Operating machinery: Grader operators must be able to safely and efficiently operate a motor grader. This includes knowing how to operate the grader's controls and gauges, as well as how to perform maintenance on the equipment.
  • Following safety procedures: Safety is an important part of operating a motor grader. Grader operators must be familiar with all safety procedures and protocols for operating this machinery.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team: Grader operators often work independently, but they must also be able to work effectively as part of a team when necessary.
  • Grader operators should have some basic mechanical skills in order to perform routine maintenance on the equipment.
  • Grader operators should be able to identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Grader operators should be able to communicate effectively with their supervisors, other crew members, and other stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail: Grader operators must be able to pay attention to detail in order to create smooth and level surfaces.

LICENSES

  • Regular Class “E” Driver’s license, required.
  • CDL license, preferred

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year(s) experience operating a road grader.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regular attendance is required during normal working hours, which will include weekends and holidays.
  • Sitting, Walking, Standing, Kneeling, Crawling, Climbing, and Reaching
  • Must be able to work in all positions (bending, climbing steps, kneeling, reaching, and crawling) and be able to continuously lift up to 50 pounds.
