SALINA FAMILY YMCA-JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Seasonal Food Service Worker
SUPERVISOR: Child Nutrition/Seasonal Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Child Nutrition
FLSA STATUS: Seasonal
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Child Nutrition/Seasonal Coordinator, the Kitchen Assistant will stock, prepare, and serve all food and beverage items and maintain quality food according to state regulations. Maintain a clean kitchen and a good relationship with the teachers, assistants, and other YMCA staff members. Provides quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Stock, prepare, and serve all food and beverage items for YMCA Food Programs.
Maintain a clean and safe kitchen and storage environment.
Maintain acceptable standards in the Food Service areas based upon the State of Kansas, OSHA, USDA, and CACFP Regulations.
Follow all assigned schedules, menus, and operations.
Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility, and consistently demonstrating professional conduct.
Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
All other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience assisting and preparing food for groups.
  • Must be knowledgeable and willing to take classes regarding food preparation, storage, CACFP, SFSP etc.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with children, employees, and guests.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and meeting deadlines.
  • Use good judgment and discretion within the department and assignments.
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license and reliable transportation. (helpful but not required)
  • Follow all Salina Family YMCA and Kansas Department of Health and Environment safety requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Certifications: CPR amp; First Aid, within 30 days of hire. (Training opportunities available)

WORK ENVIRONMENT amp; PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
  • Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
  • Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
  • Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Work in different temperature environments.
