What are SDR companies?

SDR companies are organizations that specialize in providing Sales Development Representative (SDR) services to other businesses. These companies help generate leads, qualify prospects, and set appointments for sales teams, allowing businesses to focus more on closing deals. By outsourcing the SDR function, businesses can scale their sales efforts faster and more efficiently without the need to hire and train in-house teams. SDR companies often use a combination of outreach strategies such as cold calling, emailing, and social selling to identify and engage potential customers.

What are the main challenges faced by Sales Development Representatives (SDRs) in companies, and how can job seekers prepare for them?

One of the main challenges SDRs face is consistently generating high-quality leads in a competitive market. The role often involves overcoming frequent rejections and maintaining motivation while reaching out to prospects through calls, emails, and social media. Job seekers can prepare by developing strong communication skills, learning effective research techniques, and becoming comfortable with sales tools like CRMs. Building resilience and a positive attitude toward feedback are also important for long-term success in this fast-paced environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sales Development Representative (SDR), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Development Representative (SDR), you need strong communication skills, resilience, and a foundational understanding of sales principles, typically supported by a bachelor's degree or relevant experience. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software like Salesforce and sales engagement tools such as Outreach or HubSpot is common in this role. Outstanding SDRs demonstrate persistence, active listening, and the ability to quickly build rapport with potential clients. These skills and tools are crucial for effectively generating leads, nurturing prospects, and driving revenue growth for the organization.

Job description

At Pylon, we're building the future of B2B Post Sales.
Top support and success teams at companies like Hightouch, Merge, and Sardine use Pylon to manage their customer support and customer success.
We're building an all-in-one support platform powered by conversational data and layered with intelligence to help our customers run their operations in real-time. We're backed by YCombinator, General Catalyst, and a16z and have over 1300 B2B companies trusting Pylon to power their customer support and success.
Our GTM tech stack includes tools like Salesforce, Amplemarket, Clay, Default, Pylon, and Equals.
What You'll Do
  • First, build the process. We expect you to build process given this is the first SDR leadership role we have. We believe great managers should be great SDRs themselves.
  • Pipeline Building: Purely outbound. You will book meetings for all of our AEs, no 1:1 pairing for now.
  • Prospecting: Research target accounts and create account lists that you will outbound (150-1000 employees).
  • Qualify Leads: You won't be qualifying leads over calls or running discovery. We expect you to outbound to companies that are a fit. No BANT over here.
  • Book Meetings: It's not super vital how you book meetings. LinkedIn, Cold-calling, email, smoke signal, doesn't matter. We do expect a well rounded individual that has the ability to book across multiple channels.
  • Collaboration: You will work with the AE team on messaging, feedback, etc. but this is not a hand holding position. You will also work with our founder who leads all GTM.
  • Build from Scratch: We have basic playbooks, messaging, and sequences that work. But we want you to build what you know works or develop new strategies. The world is literally yours: SFDC is clean and open (no torched accounts), companies are fed up with the status quo, and customers love us.

Who You Are
  • 1+ years as an SDR manager selling SaaS; required.
  • Past quota hitter. Your motivation should not just be to hit your number but also crush it.
  • You're agile. This attribute isn't required to book a meeting but it is required to keep someone on the phone. If you can think on your feet and have the right responses (not just phone) at the right time, we want you.
  • You're fast. You don't need to be a Pylon expert overnight but we are looking for someone who can understand the problem we are solving quickly.
  • Experienced with a sales stack (SFDC, Amplemarket (or any other engagement tool), etc.)

Our Perks
Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees
401(k) retirement plan
Commuter benefits
Parental leave
14 company holidays + unlimited PTO
Annual offsite
Lunch, dinner, and snacks at the office
Fitness stipend
